Ya, I kinda agree with you on that but to let it go the full 15K doesn't feel right. I use to work at an engine rebuild shop. I pulled and stripped the motors and saw what bad oil does to an engine. I also , and more often, saw what bad owners did which was not check the oil levels or oil condition. I just past the 1000 mile breaking period and changed my oil. It bugged me that is wasn't even a part of the maintenance schedule. Owners manual says to just drive it nicely. We use to recommend changing the oil 500 milage, So me letting it go to the 1000 mile level bugged me. but I will be checking it and will send out a sample, at my expense, like I do for the Cat C9 and the Allison trans in the RV. But 15k just blows this boomers mind.
Who do you use for your oil analysis?

And that's MOST people's error.

Doing things based on "feelings" vs. cold hard data.

I just hit 10,000 miles at 9 months into it.
Checked oil dipstick.
Oil was transparent/translucent and brown like strong iced tea. Left a dark tan mark on the paper towel.

Ya. I'm going to wait the full year before doing the oil change. Mobil 1 0w20 in there now.

Sean,
Thank you for the reply.
I kind of figured it was going to be Blackstone.
Remember Blackstone recommends NOT to start your engine before you take the sample.
The oil should be from a cold engine and midstream.
I'm sure everything will check out to be normal.
Please post the results if possible when you get them back.
Thank you
GB

YA I do it passed on past practice. I have no idea how the build the motors, if the motors are just put together based on parts available or if the parts are mic check by the lot before install. Does the motor get a test start and run for a few hours ant then an oil change before it is installed. I "feel better knowing that changing a new motor's oil does get the majority of breaking metal particle out to the oil. Is this factual... if I had all the answers on the life of the motor before I received the vehicle I would have all the cold hard facts. So going by my feelings feels better then just believing that the engine will be fine going 15K with all those particles in the oil and filter.

I am going to wait until after the the 10k mark oil change to get a baseline sample... will be doing the tranny too. It will be about the same time I need to do the RV. The 89 F250 I am not worried about and I can't find the motor or tranny on the Tesla 😋

First one early is a common well accepted practice.

Second, extend it some.

By third, I'm comfortable using the manufacturer's recommended interval.

Fourth and beyond I'll extend it a little, the hybrids in mild climates anyway, are very GENTLE on the oil.

15,000 miles in MY hybrid is about equal to 6,000 miles in most EcoBoosts.

Just look how much my engine is off?
Again, mild climate for me. 45°F to 85°F typically.

I haven't received my Hybrid yet but I plan to do what I've always done. I change my oil at least every 3K miles. And typically use the factory recommended oil while under warranty and use a synthetic oil after the factory warranty runs out. Regular oil and filter changes as well as air filter changes are a key to long engine life, even on Hybrids I suspect.
I assume you mean 3k miles on the ICE. I looked at my average Elec vs. ICE rate which is currently a little better than 58.8% battery so 3k would only be 1764 miles using the ICE!

LOL, It's almost like we haven't been running hybrids for over 20 years. EE is selling Mobil 1 "Hybrid" oil... There is a lot more to this than what is being stated.

I always reset my Trip 2 odometer at each oil change on my Hybrid. That way you have documented info on exactly how many miles have been Electric so you know the exact amount of miles on the oil, rather than using an approximate average based on past history, etc.

I find that I get about a third of my total miles as electric. Your mileage may vary!

PS: I was just driving the wife’s ‘20 Hybrid Escape Titanium and I noticed the hybrid system just seems smoother, easier to maintain Elec power without toggling back and forth as much vs my ‘25 Mav. I know it’s basically the same, but there seem to be subtle differences in the control systems that just seem to make the Mav a little “lesser”. I also like the graphics in the IP gage cluster better on the Escape.
