Oh man, sorry to hear about the truck's mental breakdown. I think it needs to be locked up in the Maverick ward for further examination. Please let us know what the outcome is once you take it to the dealer. I know the manual is available electronic but I have read cases of not being able to access for various reasons especially in situations like yours. I purchased a hard copy to keep in the truck just in case. I like reading through it to learn stuff I never would know when I have time, waiting, etc. I think it is much easier than trying to read on the phone.

If that's what they discover - and tell me - I will report it for sure.

I'm not ripping into a week-old truck in teh pouring, freezing rain, to diagnose or fix *their* problem. :)
I can understand the frustration. One thing I won't tolerate is a unreliable vehicle, especially brand new. Give me trouble, once, twice, you can bet your ass it's gone on the third. Granted vehicles today are basically rolling computers but that's no excuse in my opinion. The hybrid powertrain is a well proven powertrain but for some reason it's had more than its share of issues since introduction in the maverick, primarily software and cv axles but they ALL have problems regardless of powertrain, brand, etc. IMO the technology/software in vehicles the manufactures just suck at. But this is just an old farts opinion that many disagree with, but that's ok with me. Hope all goes well with the repair and your all happy going forward. Oh, one last thought, don't be too ruff on the dealer service dept, they didn't make it, their just working trying to fix it for you

Roughly 400 km on new 2025 XLT hybrid AWD. Pulled into a parking spot, shifted into Park and teh truck went full retard. The Park light indicator on the shift knob flashes. The dash flips through a series of error messages: NOT IN PARK, SHIFT INTO PARK TO START, etc. The gear selector won't move, which is a lot different than usual where it will just spin infinitely.

Of course this was all 3 minutes after the dealership closed.

At first, I couldn't even shut it off. Eventually it relented and shut off. Once it shut off it allowed me to lock and unlock the doors with the fob, not the door handle. It won't start - just goes into accessory mode and flips through the stack of error messages.

Nothing works. Could not use the giant screen to check the manual. Or to get the VIN - had to use a cell phone in the rain to try to read it. Could not turn off the parking brake - neither could the tow truck guy when he showed up an hour later - he finally gave up and just dragged the POS onto the flatbed.

We live 25km away from where the thing went mental and had to call friends for a ride home.

I'm not sure I will be able to be civil when I show up at the dealership tomorrow.
Well my friend, it’s not the dealer’s fault.

Me neither!

That is what warranty is for...but as I like to think about things and try to come up with with possible solutions. (As a retired RCAF aircraft tech I can't help but think about problems and check the simplest possible answers first).

If it is electronic issues (aka "black magic"), I am so not the guy to have the answer.

Good luck today!

Andy

Edit I just read your post while I was writing , so I hope you have a better experience with your loaner Mav!

Wish I had the magic fix. However will be interested in your follow-up on this issue.

I had a similar but somewhat different issue with my 25 Lariat Hybrid. At just over a 1000 clicks I got “Transmission Failure” and everything shut off. I coasted to the side of the road and at about 5 kmh the Park Brake engaged. I turned the truck off and back on. Everything cleared.

As I was about to head out in my cross Canada trip I was a bit concerned. My dealer went over the truck for over an hour. The tech told me the problem was intermittent but there was no cure at the moment.

This happen three more times on the trip but after Manitoba it has not happened again.

Hang in there these are great trucks.

When I was in PEI this summer it was so beautiful that I will have to make a return trip and spend more time there.

I had very similar experience with my ‘22 Ecoboost after 1 year of ownership. It had the flashing dash messages and was locked into that error mode and would not start. Had it towed to dealer and they replaced the dial shift knob. 3 years later and have not had any issues since.

Maverick Manual.webp
The owner's manual - along with many other things - was greyed out and I could not access it through the TV thing.

I could have downloaded the manual to my phone except my phone was 25km away, right beside one of my home PCs where I had already downloaded it)

I wonder what costs more - printing me a manual to have in the truck or a road-side call-out, diagnosing and fixing my truck and loaning me something else to drive?

Also - why should I diagnose and fix the issue?

There are quality standards backed by criminal penalties for things like medical and aerospace code, not so for automotive code for some reason.

Aerospace and medical standards make the code tedious to write and require experienced developers that understand the rules and how to write software that follows them. This is expensive and requires certification but the code is amazingly resilient to both coding mistakes and runtime errors.

Having such a standard in the automotive sector would increase the final price of vehicles, probably quite substantially... but problems like "unintended acceleration" and "random lockups" would be nearly unheard of.

When NASA software engineers reviewed the Toyota code to try to find the reason for the unintended acceleration, I believe they described the code as "spaghetti."

Following. Sure hope they have a quick and permanent fix for you and any others that may have this problem. I'm waiting for my 2026 Mav, same trim in its 9th day of "In Production". We buy new vehicles so we don't have to worry about breakdowns! I like to think each year they improve the vehicle but the mechanical and electronics of your 25 and my 26 are the most likely the same.

This can be caused by damage to the B pillar wiring. It happened to me when they did the side airbag recall. Ford Roadside in 2023 didn't know that a Maverick that can't go into neutral requires dolly wheels to get it out of a parking space. Have them send a tow truck used for repossessions.

Definitely post a follow up so us 25 MAV owners can be ready if this happens to our.
A separate post would be better so we don't have to go fishing though this post to look for answers. 😊 Just a suggestion.
