Car locked me out with keys inside

NOOOOO…read my post above. He did it himself. He locked the door with his left hand getting out and the other three doors were “unlocked” the entire time (if he had just tried them). There were no dogs harmed in this self locking incident.

Well - to be fair - it's a setting to either unlock ALL doors when driver's door is opened, or NOT unlock the others.

So you can end up with all doors locked very easily depending on your settings.
Fob unlock only drivers door - get in, drop key or insert, get out with accidental lever push - all doors locked.
Get out after driving over 10 mph or other doors were already locked - accidental lever push - all doors locked.

AUTOUNLOCK REQUIREMENTS
Autounlock unlocks all the doors after:

1. The vehicle speed exceeds 12 mph (20 km/h).

1. Your vehicle comes to a stop.

1. You open the driver door.

Note: Autounlock operates for only 10 minutes after the ignition is switched off.

SWITCHING AUTOUNLOCK ON AND OFF

1. Using the instrument cluster display controls on the steering wheel, select Settings.

1. Select Vehicle Settings.

1. Switch Autounlock on or off.

UNLOCKING AND LOCKING THE DOORS USING THE REMOTE CONTROL

You can only use the remote control when your vehicle is stationary.

One-Stage Unlocking

Yes, you are correct with the lock options… BUT… if you were driving the truck… stop and then accidentally hit the manual lever getting out the other three doors will ALWAYS be unlocked…. no matter how you have your fob set to unlock the truck. I hope you understand what I’m saying.

Except that is the whole point of the options Mike listed. If I drive to the gas station and get out and fill up, I have my Autounlock setting set to where no other doors unlock at all. It is nothing directly to do with the fob on my pre-2025 XLT.

Yeah...I hear what you are saying. I do have my "Unlock" set to open all four doors when I hit the FOB, I assumed all 4 doors would be unlocked when the truck came to a stop, put into N and exiting the vehicle. On my 250 it must be set different, like you said, at a gas station I have to hit the lock button with my driver's door open to lock the other 3 so no one grabs anything from the other side of the truck. I had two friends have stuff stolen at the pump from the other side of the truck. It is very easy to sneek up while you are looking at the pump.

Sooooo two nights ago I was driving north for the holidays. I parked in a lot and got out of the car to get something. The car immediately locked me out with my phone, keys, and dog inside. This has never happened before - it’s never locked itself with keys inside (or outside! I always have to manually lock it with the fob). It was freezing and I was outside for 3 hours waiting for a locksmith in the middle of the night. Anyone else have this happen? In case it matters, I have a 2023 Maverick with 30k miles. Just took it in for service a few weeks ago. Thanks for your help!

I have the keypad on the door pillow so it is not a big deal....also my dealer had been locked out of my Maverick and had to call me to get my pass code to get in. My dealer acknowledges early 2022 Mavericks had the issue but as far as he knows no one at Ford knows why. It happens to me with keys in my pocket or left in the vehicle...I can usually hear the door lock click.

Edge....you are missing a very important point. We are NOT saying it can't happen...it does. BUT...what we are saying is that the Maverick owners are doing it themselves. Accidently. It's fairly easy to do...and really easy to get back in the truck....without having the external keypad. Just walk around to the passenger door and hit the unlock "button". The little one with the symbol of a lock unlocked.

So you have an option you aren't aware of - what happens when you open drivers door upon stopping.

Unlock ONLY the drivers door.
Unlock ALL the doors.

Dashboard setting. In my posted instructions.

Some areas you don't want all the doors to unlock just because you get out.
But I think you've confirmed the default setting, which I always start to wonder about on some of these, due to my change of some settings from the get-go.

I hadn't read any of the threads about having the fob locked in the car and yesterday it almost happened to me with my 2025 XLT with no keypad. I almost always keep the fob in my pocket, but yesterday I set it in the console before my 80 mile drive home. I stopped for gas and after filling up and trying to get back into the car I discovered the door was locked, phone was also inside. I briefly panicked, but went to the passenger door to find it unlocked. Crisis averted.
