Someone needs to tell Motor Trend that the 2025 Hybrid Maverick can tow up to 4k pounds if properly equipped.

"The Maverick can tow up to 4,000 pounds when equipped properly, though the hybrid version can only pull 2,000. We expect Toyota’s truck to have similar capabilities, with plenty of hooks in its bed and lots of amenities to entice buyers...."

Fords modular platform architecture investment is paying off in spades for tariffs, Maverick/Bronco Sport/Escape share enough parts that Ford is planning to build Mavericks & Escapes on it's Louisville Escape line, with just a few extra assembly stations specific for the Maverick. .......

This info contradicts the latest on this forum indicating model year '25 as the last year of production of the Escape and the St Louis plant being converted to EV production using that new EV platform. Can they build all that other stuff there too?

I'll always have a soft spot for Toyota and Honda for personal reasons, but Toyota dealers are really doing a terrible disservice to the brand, on top of the somewhat dubious value of a lot of their vehicles these days. You're not buying a Toyota pickup, driving it 300,000 miles, and then waiting to see it on a news clip of some rebel warlord giving it a second life with a ZU-23-2 out back either...they don't last that long anymore.

I recently posted my shopping experience for the Maverick at 4 different brands (Nissan, Toyota, Chevy, and Ford), and the Toyota dealers were the worst by a mile. It was like, a case study in how NOT to sell a car, or close any kind of deal, on anything.

I agree about the bad service or disservice on the toyota dealers, I went to a few all told me no, they didn't even ran my credit, it was a no from the start, called ford and in the call was approved, after like 3 months I received for more than 6 months calls from those same dealers telling me to go back that i was a valuable customer. I told them thanks for nothing and that I brought a maverick because ford apreciated and wanted my business not like them.

I know it sounds insane, but believe me is 100% true.

Pretty sure his second sentence in quotations is the incorrect verbiage from the article. You guys are saying the same thing; the MY25 hybrid can tow 4,000 pounds, when properly equipped.

one thing toyota could possibly do, and I'm surprised that hyundai hasn't tried it - is out-tech the maverick xlt and perhaps the xl as well.

as most of us know all too well, the maverick can't have adaptive cruise unless you're in a lariat, lobo 702 or 25+ tremor. yet you can buy it without a bunch of required options in the *base* ford escape, and you can also get ACC as part of the technology pack in a ranger xlt.

maverick xlt options are very expensive; check a few of those boxes and you're within spitting distance of a lariat.

my thought is that, yes, a toyota top end trim likely will be 45-50k. but if they sell a trim under 40k that has a lot of tech including ACC (or whatever toyota calls their radar/lidar cruise control), that's going to compete very well against the maverick lariat.

My prediction is that the first actual redesigned Maverick will have more options for the XLT without requiring an upgrade to the Lariat. And the Lariat will move a bit upscale with things currently unavailable on the Lariat (lighted sun visor etc. )

That was pretty much my experience as well. I drove 50 miles to test drive a Corolla hybrid that no one wanted to test or knew a thing about. Not one Toyota dealer in a 250 mile radius wanted to sell a base model @ MSRP without extra dealer junk and / or a loan at a bad interest rate.

I don't expect to get a white glove handling, but these things are major purchases for most folks. Treating the customer like buying a Corolla was some sort of Ferrari privilege was next level. Who knows, maybe Toyota did some soul searching and retraining this year.

Ford DOES have something to worry about since its adding another contender to a market currently occupied by only two vehicles.

Looks like not until the end of 2027. The Maverick redesign will be coming out around the same time. I still don't think Ford has much to worry about.

I'm not as familiar with what they could use against the ecoboost, but yeah I've heard terrible things about newer turbocharged Toyota engines.
For sure Toyota hybrids have solid reliability so they would likely be more reliable than the Hybrid Mav. Coming from a 2012 LExus CT (Prius engine) I can safely say it is much more refined than Ford's take on an Atkinson cycle motor and eCVT transmission.

So a more expensive, less reliable, more compromised take on a maverick, pass.

The newer tundras and Tacomas have a way worse reliability rating than the maverick does, at least last time I checked both of those Toyota trucks had below average reliability ratings. The turbocharged engines in the tundra are blowing left and right, and tons of Tacomas are having transmission and electrical issues.

I just don't like how Toyota gets praised because "Oh they made good cars in 1997". It's just a very overhyped brand imo. With the exception of Mazda, I believe all the Japanese brands are overrated having owned most of them.

Wrong. This is the first time Toyota has officially confirmed the rumors.

It's still a bit speculative but Toyota's North American head of planning and strategy confirmed that they are going to make a compact pickup to finally compete with the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

I would bet a lot of money it uses the same transmissions as the Maverick, hopefully with a larger torque capacity traditional automatic for the gas-only version, and better cv axles on all of them.

X2 I highly doubt they will use a Manual Transmission in them!!

I don't think that many people cross-shop toyota and ford, especially in trucks and with toyota's high pricing and high markups as long as ford can hold the pricing down I think they'll be fine.

I remain hopeful for Toyota's option.
But likely not for the reasons most Maverick owners/buyers may care about. This forum makes it seem like everyone is crazy for the Hybrids.
Mostly I'm looking for a 6 speed manual version.
Toyota is one of the few still offering Fun, sporty, small cars WITH manual trans.

Ford has all but given up on the small, fun and sporty market..In the USA and now in Europe too.

The Mav is not what I'd consider "Small", its larger than any of the old 'compact' pickups from the 80s/90s/naughties/10s (S10/S15/<old> Ranger). I'd even guess that the Mav is likely larger than some of the older "full size" pickups from ~25 yrs ago (regular cabs).

I'm sick of the Bloat in the American auto market...and every other company selling in America having to follow suite, because its apparently what the masses want..

If Toyota made a pickup similar to my 2005 Scion Xb that would be killer. Like a shrunken Hylux. Still like my hybrid Mav though.
