Toyota Champ in UK, Stout in Brazil. NO THANK YOU in N.A.
I imagine the Champ is a sure winner in every market where sold for the ugly truck award.

Maybe Toyota decided not to build a new small truck for the US market because they already have a "proven winner".

No...AWD and 4x4 are superior in the snow. Hard stop.

However it only helps you get going. It doesn't help you stop and doesn't help you when you are at speed.
Increasing stopping distance is the job of the ABS ( my experience) guess what that is not what ABS is for anyway!

Indy, NASCAR, etc do not use ABS. Good drivers will never need their ABS. Poor drivers need a safety net. Tailgating on wet roads definitely helps unprepared drivers. If all cars had anti-lock… think how many Mavericks would be saved.

Nope, it's to allow steering while emergency braking. Any change in braking distance is incidental.

Good drivers will never need their ABS.
Eh... This is down to luck, not skill. You can be forced into a bad situation in congested traffic regardless of how safely you drive. Cars can come flying across the median directly at you, tires can fly off of passing semis, teenagers can throw rocks at you from overpasses, loads can fall off of poorly secured trailers. There's no way to drive in public that doesn't allow for anybody to ever be near you unless you live in the middle of nowhere and never drive in traffic of any kind.

The advantage of ABS is that it lets you continue to steer while stopping. You stop quicker than you would if you skid, but not quicker than if the brakes were fully applied the whole time.

Bullshit. They don’t have ABS because it’s a sport and an aid.

No professional driver can stop a vehicle without ABS quicker than a vehicle equipped with ABS. Hard stop.

ABS was first developed for aircraft in the 30's to keep them on the runway,I had a 99 Nissan pickup with 4 wheel abs, that was dangerous to drive in the "slick" because of increased stopping distance-Now I was so conflicted about the hype,I decided to do a little test one day with 6 inches of wet snow,I selected a stretch of road, level and straight, full brake 30 mph, brrrrr! the brake pedal slapping my foot scarcely slowing down,I thought well lets make this interesting I speedup to 40 mph and modulated the brake pedal, the sumbitch stopped quicker! I had noticed on a bridge with icy patches that thing refused to stop at least it skidded in a straight line( the true purpose of ABS,people actually need driving school rather then technical fixes.

No professional driver can stop a vehicle without ABS quicker than a vehicle equipped with ABS. Hard stop.(depends on the conditions, back around 1978 DOT mandated ABS systems for heavy duty trucks there were so many accidents the mandate was relaxed, most contractors that bought new heavy duty trucks had to disable the system,ABS does help a semi stay in a straight line, there is no panacea for conditions and poor drivers, when the wheels are locked on dry pavement the friction interface between asphalt and rubber helps shed energy,if the wheels keep turning there is little energy deleted, again it depends on conditions,on Ford pickups with the rear abs system,it didn't work worth a darn( most the time the rear brakes didn't work,I am sure the system is much better these days, that being said if ABS was an option on new vehicles I would have to think long and hard about checking the box, each to his own.

You’re absolutely correct, my bad. Technology hasn’t advanced in the 48 years since…..🙄
some better, some worse, some simply so complex it doesn't function as intended.( always at a price increase)

It doesn't take tailgating or precipitation to be in a situation that induces a panic stop.

ABS has been a requirement on new passenger cars since 2000, so there's likely to a be a majority of passenger cars with ABS on the roads at this point.

There was a time when a human could outperform ABS in dry, non-slip conditions. 26 years of refinement (since mandatory ABS, not since creation) has affected that.

An F1 driver can stop their F1 car in half the distance of an ABS equipped vehicle from 100mph. The G’s are six times as strong - incredible athletes.

That said, the current F1 rules this year have the drivers using regenerate braking to power the 50/50 split between electric & ICE. Drivers are ready to go on strike! No ABS but having to slow down in corners to generate battery power ouch.
