If the Toyota has AWD and tows a similar amount I'm switching. My '23 Maverick has 8000 miles on it and rattles like it's 30 years old inside, and the interior is way too scratch prone.

I love the foot print/profile of the Mav but my wife's 15 year old Prius only has a very small rattle and it was easily fixed with a playing card. The quality of the Ford outside the drivetrain is just terrible IMO.

"The kill," huh? Like how the Tundra killed F Series sales?
Like when people thought the newer tundra with the turbocharged motors was gonna destroy the f-150 when in reality, all the new tundras seem capable of destroying is their own engines. Literally a line of trucks at the dealership with less than 20k miles on them waiting for new motors lol.

I'll be trading in as soon as it's released. Always been a Toyota fan!

Click-Bait.... 😛

to be fair, this is the first time Toyota has ever acknowledged that they're definitely doing this.

all the other times the past few years were a 'maybe someday'.

Although I personally have never cared for the styling, it appears that Hyundai won't really be competitive in this segment without a hybrid. Why they have not done that is beyond me. I might have considered it if they had. Toyota needs to be careful of its stying also as this may play a big role in the Hyundai's poor sales. The Rav-4 and the Tacoma also don't have the greatest appearance IMO. Currently, Toyota seems to enjoy being able to sell whatever they offer no matter how it looks.
Hyundai SC doesn't sell because it has a tiny wheelbarrow size bed its not a truck its a Hyundai version of the Subaru Outback with the trunk turned into a "bed" that could fit 1 but not 2 whole trash bins.

So what if SC can tow, so can a shitload of SUVs, I'm guessing 90% of truck owners only haul in their bed, if I just want towing I'll get an Explorer or Pilot, SC hauling in it's wheelbarrow bed sucks.

It will be hybrid only with 3+ trim levels. I would guess the list price to be $32K for the base trim going to $48K. It will have to be assembled here due to tariffs. It will be price competitive to the Maverick. The Maverick will also shift to USA assembly to stay price competitive. Tariffs + higher gas prices are doing wonders for the auto sector.
Fords modular platform architecture investment is paying off in spades for tariffs, Maverick/Bronco Sport/Escape share enough parts that Ford is planning to build Mavericks & Escapes on it's Louisville Escape line, with just a few extra assembly stations specific for the Maverick.

2026 Maverick Ford is doing the right thing, making the base XT with roll down windows, halogen headlight bulbs, bare featured center console, $2k cheaper.

I like Toyota. If they make a little truck like the Maverick with similar features, bed space, mileage and for a reasonable price I will check it out.

I'll always have a soft spot for Toyota and Honda for personal reasons, but Toyota dealers are really doing a terrible disservice to the brand, on top of the somewhat dubious value of a lot of their vehicles these days. You're not buying a Toyota pickup, driving it 300,000 miles, and then waiting to see it on a news clip of some rebel warlord giving it a second life with a ZU-23-2 out back either...they don't last that long anymore.

I recently posted my shopping experience for the Maverick at 4 different brands (Nissan, Toyota, Chevy, and Ford), and the Toyota dealers were the worst by a mile. It was like, a case study in how NOT to sell a car, or close any kind of deal, on anything.

For me to even consider it I would want it to have Toyotas off-road goodies or a TRD Pro trim level for under $50k with hybrid drivetrain.

Im more interested in a 2026 Ridgeline hybrid

Add me to the list, I'm also waiting for the ev ford or a hybrid Ridgeline.
