I went without on a BMW, and skipped it when I got a nearly $5000 quote. And it wouldn't have paid for itself since the issues arose after it would have expired.
I'm surprised BMW / Mercedes / VW group even offer an extended warranty.

Can't decide on the Maverick 10 year / 100K yet, will probably though when the salesmen comes on this forum with the terrible news that rates are going up even more next year. It honestly seems like 50/50 since anything with a wiring harness, heck even the headlights is straight to $1,000+ in repairs, but on the other hand I honestly feel like the hybrid powertrain is solid, and a lot of the other repairs start piling up after 100K (why the longer warranties are far more $).

I would also add that something like a half warranty repair would drive me nuts. Say one strut start leaking at 93K miles, but they are both 100% shot. Ford is only going to pay for 1. Same for stuff like a CV shaft, ball joint, tie rod end, heck even brake pads if those are covered. If 1 is bad, 2 are bad. If I were paying for those repairs out of pocket, both are going to be replaced when the other is probably going to go bad right as I'm driving out of the shop. The warranty bean counter doesn't see it that way though.

I've never buy an extended warranty on anything before, not in any car, not in any house appliances, not in any computer or so
I did it once on a Chevy. It was a third party thing and I made a claim at the end that was so much of a pita that the entire thing wasn't worth it. So far my 1yo Mav is doing great.

You try that logic with health insurance too?
1/4 teaspoon of Baja Gold sea salt in the morning in 10 oz of water. A few undisclosed vitamins and 8-10 minutes of breath work.
The Gary Brecka way,
I got VA health insurance but I make sure I don’t need it.

Speaking both as a consumer attorney and an economics professor, extended warranty/product protection/etc. is almost always a lousy deal.

There are two primary exceptions:
1) the cost of the item is so high that you could not replace it if it fails, and
2) the quality is so low that failure is a near-certainty, and you simply build the price of the warranty into "having the gizmo for N years".

There's also a 3) which is a combination of the two.

The second was the case on my last VCR. I really couldn't tell you if it was $50 or $100, but I simply took the $20 for the extended warranty as part of the cost of having a VCR for two years. I was on the fifth unit at the end of two years . . .

In most cases, an extended warranty is a vehicle for extra commissions. In fact, the commission on the warranty is often higher than on the sale itself.

This is the case for nearly all third party warranties on vehicles (the exception being credit unions that negotiate a deal for members), and for most sold by dealers (but granger and Fleming [?] sell at $25 over dealer cost, which is about 55% of list).

Personally, although I practically never buy them, I got the 10/100/0 from granger on the maverick.

(Can you say "CV joint").

The only other one I can recall getting is on a temperature probe, because the wires always break (case 1).

If I had bought an extended warranty on every car new car I've owned, added up the cost, subtracted the out of pocket repairs, I would be able buy ANOTHER new car.
I cite this turning down AppleCare; I could replace a couple of wnaytghing I've ever bought from savings. But I did spend a couple of years on the super-duper-wooper exchange every year AppleCare, and it replaced a screen (fell 12' while I was on a ladder, and the center of the face landed on a screw)

As for the OP{: in a year or two, we'll all be singing and dancing, "ding-dong, the CV is dead!"

I should basically save a canned response for warranty threads. If you can afford to make a big repair I can't imagine they are worth it. You have to look at it from the perspective of the company offering the warranty. It's like going to a casino. The house always wins.

I very rarely buy extended warranties. However I did for the Maverick. My concern was the quality issues Ford has had lately. And all the electronics in the vehicle. Hope I never have to use it.

I am coming to the end of my 3/36 warranty, with only a 1200 miles and 4 month left I have decided not to buy a extended warranty. My Maverick has been problem free and yes I know that doesn't guarantee a problem free future but I am going to take my chances.
I'm buying it via Granger - I have a month left to do it, I came from decades of multiple used vehicles and got sooo tired (and broke) paying for repairs, especially hard to find electrical issues and BCM reprogramming. I got a deal only paying 22K out the door for my pure base xl, it's been great except for that CV replacement that was under warranty, but at the loaded rate of about $125+ an hour for labor ... and continuing to go up...even a couple relatively minor fixes will pay for it. Best thing to do if you're planning on getting the extended warranty is to get it as soon as you can, because it goes up once or twice a year and no you are not paying for something you're not using during your B2B manufacturer's warranty - you are locking in a price when you get beyond that.

I'm similar to you my 22 eco was 21,700 + tax, tag, dealer doc. Not similar is my gas engine can be worked on anywhere, dealer labor are not a concern. Either way we got a great price on our first gen.

I am about to finish the deal on a 25 Eco boost lariat with the Granger guys, in all honesty the 5 years 60000 miles for $810 does look attractive.
