Has anyone researched to determine if a hybrid of an
EB is more expensive to insure? I may call my State Farm agent tomorrow and see if there is a difference. Does anyone own both and have them insured????
most of your insurance is determined by the safety rating - it costs more to fix you than to fix the truck.

Safety rating is just one factor. It influences premiums for personal injury protection (PIP). Collision, comprehensive, property damage are all influenced by other factors. PIP many or may not not be the most expensive part of the insurance. Every driver and every vehicle will have different factors that influence the cost.

The lesson here is to ALWAYS get an insurance estimate. It is incredibly easy to surpass $1,500 in repairs today, and adjusters can see domino-effect damage that we cannot. Getting an estimate is not the same as filing the claim. If the estimate is, say, $750 you have a choice to make: Pay it yourself, or file and see what happens to your premium. But if your estimate is $3,000, you file the claim.

I had an '03 Lincoln Aviator, I replaced it with my '22 mav - my insurance went down 20 percent! I asked my agent if he could verify this and indeed he did and said it went down because the mav was a much safer vehicle than my big old massive Aviator. I was rather pleased. Yeah, there are other factors for sure but my personal experience was quite an eye opener....

Sorry to hear it but minor accidents do hide themselves behind the plastic. In my 2008 Hyundai Tucson I got a minor hit from behind and it looked like a mere scratch deep into the plastic. Body shop had an estimate of $300 bucks to repair, that price went up to $2,700 bucks as they had to replace and straighten panels and body beneath the plastic. In a parking lot several months ago, someone backed into my Mach E putting a small dent about 3"s long in the hoods leading edge, some deep scratches in the nose cover, cracked the running horse emblem and the front camera. I was shocked when they said$3,600 to repair and replace, apparently some paint colors are very expensive to repair. It's not a show car so I am leaving it as is.

after the rear collision write-offs and this - one might assume the insurance for a Mav equals that of a RR

The Hybrid has 2 radiators in 1. The bottom portion for HVB and the top portion for the ICE.

Geez that stings! Probably not much you can do but pay for the repairs if there's no accident report for your insurance. Good info for future reference to other owners.
Twice I've had damage to a vehicle on private property (applies to off-road, shopping centers, private businesses). Found a stump in tall grass...so did not have a "police" report. Insurance company notified weeks later and agreed, police report not needed and simply had their insurance adjuster review the damage and paid claim. On same accident, some hidden damage was found after damaged fender was removed a month later and insurance adjuster agreed that it was hidden damage...and insurance co. agreed to pay for hidden damage...agent said that happens all the time when some damage is not visible until parts are removed.

If the Inverter Radiator was damaged and leaked, odds favor you would have damaged the Turbo-Intercooler in the same incident. Luckily you didn't damage the control module that sits in the front left corner, directly behind the side fender marker light. - Not positive, however pretty sure that control module is actually the PCM, which seems sort of a strange place to mount the PCM. (I'd expect it mounted in an area less likely to be damaged, but then why for the longest time did manufacturers mount the battery in the front corner, where it may be crusted in an accident.)

Edit to add: Incidentally, that radiator is roughly $140.00 via the online parts stores. Not sure what other pieces may have been damaged, or whether it was mostly labor to R&R the radiator & coolant.

Per the Op,
A minor bump/scrape caused $3200 in damage underneath.
Hybrid or not that’s bad.

I just had this same problem but from a rock apparently….. 2200 bucks for a freaking radiator that is basically unprotected!!!
Please post some pictures of modern cars with radiator 'protection'

So, the repair shop fixed the bumper and missed the leak? I'd say beware of an incompetent repair shop.

OP said $80 repair to buff and touch up paint.

That is not likely to be a body shop. It was probably a detailer whether a shop or mobile guy. Detailers are not looking for mechanical issues.

Fault for not finding the damage is on the OP for assuming it was purely cosmetic.

Five weeks ago, my wife had a minor collision with an SUV that caused some cosmetic damage to my left front bumper. (It caught the right rear bumper of the SUV in a glancing blow.) No dents, no major scratches, and the no air bags deployed. It cost all of $80 to buff away some rubber residue and apply some touch up paint. Fast forward to last week, when I noticed a small puddle on the garage floor, and later that day the truck stalled and was towed to the Ford dealer. They informed me that the high voltage radiator (it cools the high voltage battery) and some grill shutters have suffered impact damage, which will cost $3,258 to repair. I'm really surprised it took a month for the damage to manifest itself. And, if I had known the hybrid was so fragile, I would have opted for the Eco-boost.

Glad I did my research and decided not to buy a hybrid. I'm hearing mechanics talk about them being rough on the gas engine, plus the added cost and weight.
