Five weeks ago, my wife had a minor collision with an SUV that caused some cosmetic damage to my left front bumper. (It caught the right rear bumper of the SUV in a glancing blow.) No dents, no major scratches, and the no air bags deployed. It cost all of $80 to buff away some rubber residue and apply some touch up paint. Fast forward to last week, when I noticed a small puddle on the garage floor, and later that day the truck stalled and was towed to the Ford dealer. They informed me that the high voltage radiator (it cools the high voltage battery) and some grill shutters have suffered impact damage, which will cost $3,258 to repair. I'm really surprised it took a month for the damage to manifest itself. And, if I had known the hybrid was so fragile, I would have opted for the Eco-boost.

Geez that stings! Probably not much you can do but pay for the repairs if there's no accident report for your insurance. Good info for future reference to other owners.

I understand everything seems expensive these days. I guess the dealer gave you a detailed estimate and showed you the damage to the radiator and shutters that was likely caused by an accident and caused problems five weeks later? Seems high but what do I know? Interesting that they had to remove shutters to reduce fire hazards on the earlier hybrids, but they want to replace them when a customer has to pay for them.

Hope it all goes well. Good luck!

And, if I had known the wife would wreck my truck hybrid was so fragile, I would have opted for the Eco-boost redhead who knew how to drive.

I thought the EB has active shutters too.

ALL VEHICLE REPAIRS ARE EXPENSIVE NOW.

So is food, rent, insurance……….

If your airbags go off for any reason whatsoever your insurance will total your Maverick.

The days of inexpensive car repairs are long gone and never coming back.

Get used to it.

The only part that is puzzling is that there was damage to the shutters and to the battery radiator. Therefore there must have been more damage than what was reported. A scuff on the paint does not = damage to those parts. I think it was a bigger collision than reported.
Any pictures?

Has anyone researched to determine if a hybrid of an
EB is more expensive to insure? I may call my State Farm agent tomorrow and see if there is a difference. Does anyone own both and have them insured????

It does. So does almost everything else. And we sometimes an awkward but in the wrong place can do a lot of hidden damage, his truck probably had the impact in just the right (wrong) spot to do that much damage in a very minor impact

the mav hit the SUV - you don't need an accident report to admit you made a mistake, that's what insurance is for , just file a claim,, get it fixed, have your rates possibly go up - that's life.
