How difficult would it be to put a V8 into a Maverick

Depends on what size V8. A girl I knew in high school in the 80's had an Opel GT with a V8 in it, but it was a Chevy 262. It was a tight fit! The engine, too.

I could see this as some shade tree artist's Summer project, but I don't think it would be an improvement in any way. Fun to see, though. Also, there is nothing magical about 8 cylinders, even though the number 8 is spiritually/culturally associated with prosperity and completion. The fastest race cars in the world that aren't electric have V6 engines.

I could see doing a V6, hooked up to the right transmission. But there some nice 4-cylinder modifications that can be done as stated by 1929 above, that won't put you in the "poor house". Maybe a V4 if you are looking.

i think a maverick with a turbo coyote v8 engine swap would be the ultimate mini truck for drag racing. Look at the new f150s with the coyote engine that are drag racing. They are running 8 second 1/4 miles easily. It really depends what youre trying to do with the maverick honestly. The 2.3 ecoboost would probably be the best and easiest swap for the least amount of cost.

Once you get into road bikes, crotch rockets.
Your definition of fast moves away from big engines in little cars.
Sport bike and rider, say seven pounds per horsepower.
Just sayin.

It'd be a unique project. I'd kind of like to see it. A good fabricator could make it work.

Would be all for a unique swap too, something like the Jag/Ford AJ-V8 that you don't see too commonly.

A V8 should fit just fine in...the bed. Even a 'Yote would fit with those big ol' heads. Lift with a cheery picker or forklift, set it on an old tire and ratchet-strap it in there. Easy Peazy

This is showing my age, but I remember seeing an ad for a motorcycle (don't remember the brand or model) and it had 210 HP, which blew my mind because at the same time, the Lincoln Mark VII had the same horsepower with a 5L v8 and the cycle was a heck of a lot lighter.
So I understand pounds per hp!
