It would be like this VW I saw last fall. Interesting but most people laughed at it.

My Aunt had this setup, not fun to be in. Had to drive with windows open, deafening loud, could feel the heat on body parts not covered by the seat. Turned vw bus into a two seater.

Yeah, just do a mid-engine mount in the bed (and part of the backseat) and you could stick almost any V8 in it.
Oh wait, there wouldn't be enough room for the transmission between the motor and the rear axle...

The Turbohydromatic 425. It's a repackaged 400 used for the front drive eldorados and tornadoes of the 70s, and also for rear engine RVs.

The catch is that if you have one of the two cars that used it, you can't swap in anything with an overdrive! [well, there's an exotic workaround, but . . .]

I have zero issues with swapping a V8 into anything... Think Carroll Shelby and the Cobra..

There is also "No Replacement for Displacement"

Here's a few pics of my Adult Go Cart..

2008 Honda S2000

Has an Aluminum LS from a vette.. and a T56 6-speed from an F Body Camaro
Aftermarket heads / big cam / ton of tuning / full exhaust

Everything works... Heat / AC / Factory electric power steering and the car passes inspection. I drive anywhere and everywhere .. its not my daily but its been driven to my office numerous times and makes 430HP at the rear wheels.. its an absolue blast!

It'd be a unique project. I'd kind of like to see it. A good fabricator could make it work.

Would be all for a unique swap too, something like the Jag/Ford AJ-V8 that you don't see too commonly.
Maybe a vr8 or w8?

easy peasy, just put motor in bed with output towards the front of the truck. That would be in front of rear axle

Funny thing about those 289's. Dimensionally they are the same as the 302 (5.0L).
My dad and I put one in a 1974 Mazda RX4 and ended up with the most awesome death trap I ever drove... for a very short time. We got rid of it before one of us wrecked it and got k!lled.
Anything can be done, but the real question is whether or not it should happen. Personally, if I had the disposable cash, I would have a Coyote Maverick. Love that sound.

There's this too!
Coyote Maverick would weigh more than a Coyote Mustang. Kind of pointless.
