Ford Replaced my CV axles at 35 k with the same poorly engineered parts and now they are bad again, The dealer wants
to charge me $1500 to replace them again with the same bad parts. I called Ford and they basically told me to go sit and spin. Has anyone bought after market half axles that last. I'll replace them myself.

The axle design was revised in November 2024, which should hopefully solve the problem.

Axles are covered under the 5yr/60k mile powertrain warranty (unless you lifted it, which kills the CV joint even faster). My truck is at the dealer getting a new axle for free at 40k miles.

edit: if you're outside the powertrain warranty, would the axles be covered under Ford's parts warranty? Ford OEM parts are supposed to be warranted for 24 months and unlimited miles, at least when sold over the counter. Perhaps your dealer can get Ford to cover the part cost as the manufacturer of the defective part.

Ford won't do a thing. Dealership told me they would be happy to fix it for $1500 I love this truck but I don't trust it. Ford is crap . My first car was a Ford escort and it was delivered with a bad frame weld which caused the car to never be in alignment. I swore I would never own a Ford again. There you go

Of course dealer said they'd be happy to fix it for a cost.

But did YOU look at the parts warranty - because you can bet they won't bring it up even if it applies.

Or did the replacements make it over 2 yrs, so it doesn't matter?
And ya, several threads on the upgraded part numbers, actually it sounds like only current numbers available now.

Well that's a shame. The revised axles should be better -- at minimum, they'll fix the problem well enough to sell it.

A private shop should be able to do the job for less, although not cheap.

It should take about 3 billable hours to swap both axles, which is $300 - $600 depending on their labor rate. Axles cost around $200 each. Assuming $50 per side for consumables (some bolts and clips are single-use), you should pay roughly $800 - $1100 for the job.

Are you out of warranty?? Or are they refusing to warranty the parts for other reasons??

If the axles were replaced under warranty Ford will only provide a 12/12 warranty - the 24/unlimited is for parts you PAY for...Axles were only part of the reason I bought the Extended Service Plan...

Can a average back yard mechanic replace these axles without special tools?

I've done it a few times. If you don't have a torque wrench that can go 200+ ft pounds, you can rent one from an auto parts store. Be careful around the axle seals. They are easily damaged.

File a complaint with the BBB. Reading the complaints and resolutions, Ford appears to be responsive to reasonable complaints. I've had a company that told me to pound sand completely change their tune after I filed a BBB complaint. It doesn't cost anything.

You've been wanting to get rid of it since last May.

Get rid of it.

If it has a lot of miles, it's not a bad idea. I'd just be real careful breaking the axle loose and removing it. If you use a hammer and chisel, it's real easy to nick the seal with the chisel. You can also damage the seal as you pull the axle out if you aren't careful. If it's low miles, I'd probably just give it a real good inspection. Put a light on it and rub your finger along it. Sometimes tears aren't readily visible unless you do. Getting those seals flush when replacing them can be tedious in your driveway on a hot, summer day. I am not a mechanic, but do most of my own vehicle repairs. Good luck!

The halfshafts are covered under the 5/60k warranty, so unless you have over 60k on it or ripped the boots driving over asinine obstacles, then they should be under warranty (unless you lifted it and then its your problem). The replacements are an upgraded part, and they should only be 2/3 of the price that you've been quoted. Maybe you need a better dealer. Either way, what are you doing to eat halfshafts faster than anybody else?
