This. If the original halfshafts were the incorrect length Ford would have to be replacing transmissions as well as shafts. The operating lengths of the original and updated shafts must be the same, as the distance from the tranny to the hub is what would determine the length.

Cheers.
Except they are not the same length.

That is a strange mistake for them to make.

I can't imagine there was a substantial cost saving or something. Mechanical engineer just screwed up???

One of the very first members here who received the new axles did a side by side with the updated axles and the new one was longer.

Until there is picture evidence otherwise (for me) that endures.

I'm not doubting it, I'm just wondering how Ford made what seems like a pretty dumb mistake.

My opinion is that Ford never intended hybrid Maverick owners to use their truck like….a truck. When they did, shit failed. Even if they didn’t, shit still failed.

They made super cheap CV axles across the board until you buy a Tremor (or now Lobo).

Their super cheap CV axle was also not the correct length for the HF45/HF55 eCVT trans and while some above want to deny reality - that is what happened

How would they both fit into the same space if different lengths? The housing on the new shaft could be longer, but logically the installed length must be the same.

Cheers.

Cheers. I’m gonna stand on my opinion until someone offers evidence otherwise than what was shown here on MTC.

If/when that happens I will eat the hardest of crow.

Hopefully they are more durable than the originals in any case!

Cheers.

Remember Ford does not manufacter those CV shafts.

Since Eaton makes the rear axle and the AWD components I would think they may
source the CV axles from them, too.

Ford does make the transmission in one of their transmission plants afaik.

Hyundai is the manufacturer, according to other posts, but they would be contracted to meet a Ford spec. So it's either inconsistent quality, of different usage cases, that see some folks have issues (sometimes multiple failures) or not.

Cheers.

The splined end is too short to fully engage into the transmission so the splines strip out.
If that were true then every halfshaft replacement would also include a transmission teardown and/or replacement. Clearly this does not happen.

The splines do not enter the transmission... just the coupler whuch is not. a lubricated part so any debris does not contaiminate the oil.
