Have ‘23 XL w/20k mi. Bought $799 dealer protection pkg. After new wiper blades installed at 18k oil chg wipers have removed exterior tint (?). Dealer tried to acid wash. Sent to body shop who tried to scrape w/razor blade. I think they accidently applied ceramic to glass but they say no. Protection Pkg wtty excludes glass. Body shop tried to tell me I should have bought Ford Windshield Care pkg. When you go to Ford website - not available in FL. Took to Nation Auto Glass. Have never seen anything like this happen in 35 yrs in the business. Curious if anyone else’s windshield has similar issues.

Exterior tint?
Never heard of such a thing on windshield.
So you can feel an actual lip of material on the edge there?

No you can’t feel anything - that’s why the razor blade scraping didn’t make sense. I tried 3 different brands of glass cleaner - two applications each - before taking it to Ford dealer where I purchased truck & $799 ceramic protection package. Other than too many recalls & 3 trips back to get folding bed cover adjusted so it didn’t leak, it’s been a great purchase.

You can do PPF on a windshield (not a bad idea given the tendencies of these trucks) but I don't think it would've eroded so cleanly.

At this point you'd probably just have to try different cleaners to see what the original coating is soluble in, or luck into finding a new coating that makes it all look the same - a new ceramic application, Rain-X, whatever...

The good news is that if it was a ceramic-esque coating, it will eventually wear away.

Only other thing I can think to try would be to take a wheel with rubbing compound to the windshield. At least that's what I'd try.

I hope it wears off. I thought about rubbing compound but Nation Glass recommended against that option.
How about non-abrasive Mr clean magic erase.
Thanks Glen, I’ll give that a try. I have a box and hadn’t thought of that.

Could also try a rubber (eraser) wheel on a drill.

Sorry man.

I'm a bit confused. So the premise is the "wipers have removed ...". So we're talking about a thin rubber blade caused this change.
Therefore you should be able to replicate the change with a thin rubber blade, right?

You've probably already considered this but if you try the magic eraser, try it in an "inconspicuous" spot... yea good luck, it's the windshield. They're basically fine sandpaper, somewhere 'around' 3000 grit (according to some other resources on the internet).

Good luck

Does water bead differently on those two areas?
I know said they didn’t do that, but it does look to me like a coating was applied to the windshield, and the wipers worn it off.

The Lariat acoustical windshield does seem to have a ‘soft’ outer layer. Not sure about the non-acoustical. I scratched my ‘22 Lariat windshield when I used a gas station squeegee on it to get bugs off after a long trip; not realizing there was something on it. I tried glass polish and couldn’t get them out.

When I polished it, I didn’t get any two-tone look like your picture. So polishing your windshield should cause no harm, unless you use something aggressive. You can always test an area like the upper corner on the passenger side. You can’t see that from inside, and you won’t see it each time you get in your truck.

The only other thought is did you put on a Rain-X type of wiper? Maybe the wiper is adding something to the windshield.

I would immediately add glass coverage to my policy. Take a brick to that windshield and create a good chip and get a new Ford windshield installed by a reliable place. Nothing more important being able to see clearly out of your vehicle have

I can't see the issue in the single attached photo. Is it a shine : gloss issue?

I'm on a 4" screen.
