What an odd thread. I'm actually kind of shocked though, because the avatar screams older folk and the question screams modern high schooler :ROFLMAO:

Doesn't a keypad make a vehicle a target for break-in? I mean thieves can expect at a running/hiking trail parking lot that there is stuff to be had if they break into a vehicle with a keypad. Makes a case for the newer less visable keypad or hiding it somewhere.
Probably. No more than any other method I guess. Car thieves know their targets. If they can start a vehicle without a key or use a fake key, the keypad is probably the last thing on their mind. If they have those capabilities, they are going to unlock the vehicle one way or another. Most folks looking for break ins and not focused on stealing the vehicle are either checking for open doors/windows or smash and grabs.

But I agree to a point. I mean, with all the screens in vehicles, it's kind of nice they have a physical keypad version and not some fingerprint scanner or screen that needs to be swiped to activate it lol.

Why do people get keyless entry on the door, if you can unlock your door with your phone via app?
If you don't have your phone with you.and a backup is need if you don't have service or you phone battery is dead.

The proximity system allows you to lock and unlock instantly as long as the keyfob is in a pocket or purse or gym bag just by touching the three strips on the door handle to lock or grasping the door handle to unlock. Instantly. Then start a Lariat Mav using the start button. It is a conveniece feature some love. That is one reason I paid the extra bucks for the Lariat.

I thought the keyed XLT would bug me a lot coming from a Model 3 where I just got in the car and put it in drive - no push button start needed.

But it just hasn't. My 2024 Bronco arrived yesterday and it felt odd to be to press the brake and push button. Insert a key and turn it or depress a pedal and press a button - to me it is 6 one way or a half dozen the other.

I do like the idea of the proximity/keyless entry button on the handle but that wasn't enough for me to make the jump to Lariat.

I didn't think I would use the keypad as much as I do but I find it a useful feature. I use the key fob, the pad, and the app. It's nice to have options.

In addition to previously stated reasons, you can give someone else (friend) the code if they need to get into the vehicle without you.

I've got a '23 Bronco and I do get a bit confused sometimes going between my XLT and Bronco. I've gotten in the XLT pushed the brake and am looking to push the button, sometimes getting in the Bronco I'm pulling the keyfob out of my pocket. It's not a big deal but when my '24 Lariat arrives that will help with the confusion though I bet I will still reach for the keyfob.

I'm unfortunately passing on my Bronco (had a 2022) 😢

$24,500 + my 2023 Maverick Tremor is not worth it to me.

The hybrid suffers from a deep sleep problem whereby the vehicle shuts down all non-essential electronics and thereby (lot of "-by" words here) renders the Ford Pass phone app useless.
So does the keypad not get disabled in deep sleep?

Do you know if it's the same for the accessory keypad that's not built in? (purchased/installed after picking the truck up)

On the 2023, keyless keypads were standard on the XLT and Lariat. It comes in handy when you don’t have your key fob or phone. I like it.

1. I'm in an area that doesn't have cell service. Or I have service (T-Mobile) but the truck doesn't (AT&T). I'm in the mountains 10-15 weekends a year.

2. I don't want to mess with my keys. I've either left them in the truck or they're in my mountain biking hip pack.

3. I think it came with one of the packages on my 2022.

Could I get away without it? Sure. But I really enjoy it.

The keypad supports more than one access code, and I let my girlfriend choose her own (easier to remember). This lets her open the truck without either the key fob or phone to access stuff inside or replace the Trader Joe's shopping bags we keep on the back seat. I also use the keypad when I'm working around the house and do not have my fob or phone on me. I really like it and am disappointed they removed this from the XLT package in 2024. MUCH better than a phone.
FYI, the Owner's Manual is wrong in how to unlock the tailgate from the keypad. It operates with the passenger door locks instead of being individually controlled.

My Ford app takes about a minute to lock the doors, way too much time. Keypad takes about 5 seconds.

Very handy when you leave your key and phone in the vehicle when helping your daughter move (and your spare key is in another city)!

Add long as you have set it up! Of course then you download the app to your daughter's phone, log in and unlock. Then you set up there keypad!

the accessory, not built in, key pad functions the same as your fob.
is your fob effected by deep sleep?
