I'm 66 and retired. At the time the Maverick was first announced, we had a Chevy 2500 HD Diesel that we used to pull a 5th wheel camper. But even though my wife learned to drive in a truck (1970's era Datsun pickup!), and we've owned three other pickups that she claimed as "hers," she was never able to get comfortable driving that behemoth truck, much less driving it while pulling the massive 5th wheel camper. Thus I did all the driving on our trips. On one of those trips, we both got a stomach virus, and I was sick enough to be unable to drive, so we had to extend our stay until I was better. That started the thinking that ended up with us selling the trailer and buying a small self-contained motorhome that she's OK with driving.

About that same time, I was offered $300 more for our truck than I had paid for it (5 years and 47,000 miles earlier). I could NOT pass that up. So we were "truck-less" for the first time in 24 years.

I looked into the Ranger and Colorado "mid-size" trucks, but they get worse mileage than my full-size HD diesel got, and they absolutely would not fit in the garage at our new house. Those "mid-size" trucks are larger than the full-size trucks from 10 years ago, with prices that can be astronomical! And the final strike: None of them will fit in the small garage at my new house - I'd have to park in the hot Texas sun!

Within six months of selling our "big" truck, I had to rent a small UHaul van (twice!) to move stuff that could have easily fit in a Maverick. This was in preparation for moving closer to my two daughters (and 3 grandkids). Once in the new house, I was able to borrow her mini-van (oh, the humiliation...) several times to pick up stuff from Home Depot / Lowes (which again would have fit perfectly in a Maverick). I also wound up paying a HUGE delivery charge for the baseboards at our new house, because they were too bulky for the mini-van. (And again would have been easy to haul in a Maverick with an improvised DIY rack.)

I had learned about the Maverick Hybrid, and thought it would be the perfect replacement for my 10+ year-old Toyota Prius C. Possibly even better mileage than the Prius, a LOT more interior room, and (with the Lariat Lux/360 options) a LOT more "nice touches" than my very basic Prius C...

And the Maverick comes with a huge bonus for me: It's a truck, with a decent-sized bed (plenty big enough to carry a couple of 5-gallon fuel cans for my other hobby without stinking up the interior, or to haul mulch / topsoil for my wife's gardens, and perfect for those trips to Lowes / Home Depot for lumber and other building supplies. Yet it is perfectly sized to fit in my garage!

And to top it off, the Maverick is priced below any other hybrid vehicle I could purchase, and WAY below a comparably equipped "mid-size" or "full-size" pickup... The only problem is that by the time I realized I needed a Maverick, you folks had snapped up all the order slots... The only way to get one would be paying $10K over MSRP. And even then, forget about finding a Hybrid Lariat model... In six months, I've seen exactly zero new or used ones available for sale at any price...

Thus I will be camped outside the dealer on the day the order window for the '23 Maverick opens. I'll be ordering a pretty well loaded Hybrid Lariat Lux/360 in Cyber Orange. I would personally prefer the XLT trim level (I actually prefer cloth seats for our Texas summer heat), but my wife wants me to have the Adaptive Cruise Control feature – enough to be willing to pay the extra for the Lariat trim and other option packages required to get it... [Side note: I've been married for 44 years and have noticed that when she's happy, I'm usually pretty happy as well! So my truck will be a Lariat with Luxury and Copilot 360 packages.]

Wish me luck!

Sounds like a solid plan. Ditto here with the Texas heat, and garage sizing. I'd like to add that for 2023 the adaptive cruise control may end up being optional on the XLT. Nobody has seen the options list for the 2023 models yet as far as I know. If not, then you cant go wrong with a lariat. Best of luck to you. I hope you can snap up a hybrid.

Ordering a 23 for the wife ASAP. She needs cruze control, we drove about 4oo miles to a wedding and back 2 weeks ago and she had a hard time keeping it under 90. I actually was up to 103 one time without trying.

I was very pleased with the size and versatility ok f the Maverick. And, yes, it is closer to the size of the old 1/2 tons from the 70s and 80s... Even the midsize models are pushing the limits these days. I can easily haul pretty much anything I need to and still park pretty much anywhere. My wife likes it too. Like you, my wife has over 40 years invested in me and I have discovered her happiness has a direct impact on mine. You can always start it remotely so it will cool off some before get in. Tinted windows and windshield covers are a must when we are getting 50+ days over 100 in our Texas summers. Best of luck with your Maverick... You are going to really like it.

Do the cruise control hack on your XL. Install the switches in the wheel to add cruise, and have somebody turn on the programming inside the computer with Forscan software. Prob cost you a little over $200 to do it.

Needed something with AWD for the UP winters, wanted to be able to haul some lumber, appliances, bagged goods and junk to the dump. I drive 52 miles round trip for work so I wanted better mileage than a mid or full size truck gives and for a similarly equipped bigger truck I'm at 10k more for a mid size or 20k more for a full size. I don't off road and I'm not towing anything large. This fits the bill and is priced right. I guess if money were no object in any way I would have got a full size with the most expensive options but I can't justify that for a daily driver. Love the truck and have no regrets. Picking up some snow tires soon too.

I've been reading a bunch of posts today and very few folks have given any indication why they really ordered this truck. I've heard "suits me to a tee", "this truck was made for me", etc., etc. I live in Texas country and out here in the sticks I don't think the Maverick will do too well. Oil workers and farmers and ranchers are going with Rams and F150s because that is what they need. However, I believe places like Dallas and its suburbs will probably find good sales for the Maverick.

I'm wondering - specifically, why are you buying this particular truck? I'll begin. I'm in my '70s and have owned mid-size trucks of various sorts during my life. I loved my two Dodge Dakotas and I bought one of the very first Ridgelines to come off the line in 2005. Now that money is no longer a major consideration, I've been driving Mercedes vehicles and love them but decided they just were not practical for me now that I am older with different things going on in my life. I've taken up gardening so I need something to haul plants and mulch. In my current vehicle, lucky if I can get two bags of potting soil in the thing. I live on a golf course and play almost every day but I would love to get a few guys together now and then and go to other courses - just throw the bags in the back end and go. Again, lucky if I can get a 7 iron in the car I have now. It is a beast, fast and fun to drive but I think I'm getting past that stage now. I don't trailer anything and frankly, I really don't need a truck but my love of smaller trucks won out and I ordered a Lariat that was pretty well loaded. I have a new Mercedes ordered too and should arrive next month. Now I can say I have the best of both worlds.

So, why did you buy a Maverick and what do you plan on doing with it?
I currently own a 2014 Silverado 2500 diesel. It's a beast, meaning it's long, wide and the turning radius stinks. So when I go shopping I always park in the back 40. Squeezing into the little parking spaces is challenging. On top of that, diesel fuel prices are outrageous. Now the reason for getting this beast in the first place was to pull a 32' fifth wheel RV. I needed a HD truck and diesel has the best torque for pulling. I have recently sold my RV and don't need the beast any longer. It served its purpose admirably and performed very well. It was nice having the 4x4 when we were traveling in adverse conditions. Oh yes, another thing, the "beast" just barely fits in my garage. I really have to "suck it in" to maneuver around in the garage. So if you live out in the boon docs, having a 4x4 heavy duty truck is probably the best route for you. Want to buy my Silverado? It's for sale! I'm going with the Maverick because I only need a small truck bed for my trips to the store. The days of hauling lots of top soil, bricks, gravel, etc. etc. are now days past. I live in Albuquerque New Mexico and have no need for a 4x4 either. My back can't handle the 4x4ing out in the desert. I'm soon to be 70 and have a bad back, reason for selling my RV. I just need a little run around vehicle (city dweller here) for easy parking, maneuvering around, good on fuel (hybrid) and more space in the garage. The Maverick has more than enough room for the wife and I, when running around plus an adequate bed size for the few things we need to haul. You know, typical yard/garden items from the local big box stores. Even could put our groceries back there in the small bed if we want to. So here is my reason for getting the Maverick.

I'm going to be camped at the dealer too for pretty much all the reasons you mentioned. Of course, the cloth seats are nice for the temperature but i'm doing it for the Wisconsin winters- cloth is much nicer when it's 10 below.

You might check out dealers for cancelled mavericks. I almost got a loaded Lariat for 2k over msrp but it was yellow-too bright for me.

I think a lot of us are going to be camping out at the dealer me so I get converted first. I wonder if their system is going to crash?

Good reasons CZaugg! Do you know when I wrote that post? June 23, 2021. And it still has not been built!! The wait has dulled my enthusiasm to the point that I no longer want the thing. I bought a 2022 Ridgeline last winter because I knew the wait would be intolerable. I did not cancel the order for the Maverick because if I ever get it I will sell it for a few thousand bucks more than I hope to pay for it. That is easy money. I was enthusiastic back then, not at all now.

I chose the Maverick because I've never owned a truck and I'm ready to have one. I always have fond memories of my Dad's Blue Might Max. That navy interior. When the Maverick was released and I saw the interior trim it just reminded me of that little ol' truck. So I really wanted one. Of course I ended up ordering a 23 XLT Tremor in Cactus Gray which is a far cry from the truck of my childhood but I have specific things I want to do with my truck and those won out over nostalgia. Plan to dip my toes in some easy off-roading. Mostly sand and easy stuff.

I ordered one because I have a Prius that I treat like a truck. Love the gas mileage, but want a bed to throw my junk in.

I'm going to retire soon. Hopefully by the end of the year.
I'm just a dumb, old carpet layer. I've never been anywhere or seen much of anything. I've just worked hard all my life. Never made a lot of money but I've done ok by most standards. I own 3 rental units and will have a respectable income in retirement.
As I said earlier, I've not been many places. Just 5 of the western states all my life. California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and I currently live in Arizona after living in Oregon for 25 years.
I'm 62 and very simply, I want to buy or make a small camper or tent set-up in the bed, hook my little bass boat up to the Maverick and go "that away".
The Maverick is more than just a cheap truck to me. It represents freedom. The freedom to go where and when I choose.

I retired last May and moved from northern Michigan to upstate South Carolina a week after retiring. My 2018 F150 barely fit in our new townhome's driveway, and my wife had little wiggle room backing out of our 1-car garage with the F150 parked in the driveway. So, I sold the F150 and ordered the Maverick the end of October. I wanted great gas mileage, smaller size, and hauling capabilities, so the Maverick fit the bill! I really enjoyed the F150, it was my first pick-up, but it was just too big for my needs.

Do the cruise control hack on your XL. Install the switches in the wheel to add cruise, and have somebody turn on the programming inside the computer with Forscan software. Prob cost you a little over $200 to do it.
Back in high school, graduated 1975, buddy had a '71 Barracuda with the 440 six pack, great looking car, very fast, and drank gas faster than I could drink kool-aid............
Also, another buddy in school had a 1969 Z28 with the 302 c.u. engine, which was rare. Good memories!
