Great gas mileage!
The price was fantastic! 25k out the door for my XLT hybrid with the options I wanted!
Never owned a hybrid
eCVT transmissions are known for being simple and strong.
First truck
It's fun to drive and not a slug!
It's everything I needed and nothing I don't.

Well, I have our second Prius. Somewhat like the hybrid Mav and good MPG. The maintaince is also very minimal, there is no drive belt, alternater or starter to have problems. The Priuses have been very reliable.

3 reasons:
1) I’ve owned hybrids before and liked their performance.
2) better gas mileage thus cheaper to operate
3) this hybrid was cheaper than the comparable gas model ($22,500k OTD with 0% for 36mths)

I’m happy with the choice and after +8000 miles, I would not change my decision.

Hybrids are pretty incredible vehicles. My wife’s prius has been rock solid for 8 years and still consistently returns 45-50mpg+.
I can’t stand auto transmission reliability. I have only had manual transmission vehicles but i will take eCVT no questions asked.

This is not my first experience with a hybrid engine. I’ve owned a Honda Insight, Toyota Prius, and my wife has a ‘22 Ford Escape. I’ve been fortunate enough to find three different hybrid Mavericks, first an XL in January, traded it in for an XLT at the end of March, and traded in the XLT for a Lariat at the end of October.

Of course, like everyone else mentioned, gas mileage plays a part.

Next is that there’s not any any shift points like a regular engine has. It’s just a smooth acceleration without any upward or downward shifts. It also has plenty of power too!! The engine is also much quieter than a regular engine. And lastly, it runs much smoother without and interior engine vibration or rumble.

After you have a hybrid, it’s very a very noticeable difference when you drive a regular engine vehicle. I rented a car for a few weeks when I flew up north to visit my mother and relatives. It was very irritating with the upward and downward shift points and the lack of power. I didn’t like it at all. I don’t think I’ll ever go back to buying a vehicle with a regular engine again!!

I’ve never owned or driven a hybrid vehicle before. So I’m looking for input from current owners.

Why did you opt for the hybrid over the ecoboost powertrain?

What benefits other than fuel savings does a hybrid offer?
Very simple answer for us. It’s both the fuel savings and the ability to have a pickup bed and with light towing, all with 4 doors, and under 25k.

This is after having owned other brand hybrids straight for the last 14 years, all 4-door sedans.

Never had a hybrid before. Thought I would try (still waiting) to see what the hoopla is about.

Other than fuel savings, the main benefit I see to a hybrid is less moving parts. Less parts that move, less parts that can or will wear out/break.

The Toyota technology that was adopted for the Maverick has been proven for decades now as very reliable.

The main plan was always to order and get the new Bronco when it came out and I did.

I was going to keep the paid off 2013 Ford F150 FX4 fully loaded to DD and keep unnecessary miles off of the Bronco. The 2010 Fusion is going to be my stepson's first car.

When they finally announced the Maverick at it's price point I decided I could get about 22K for trade in on the F150 with 100K miles on it and it would pay for most of getting a new vehicle to DD that gets over 40mpg and still have a pickup/bed. The F150 was averaging about 16mpg and well the Bronco is about on par with the F150 for mpg. Plus I wouldn't have to deal with a full sized pickup in the driveway anymore.

Only thing I wanted or would ask for above my spec'd Maverick would of been AWD which is still not an option. Still happy with 15K miles on the Maverick in the last year and only about 7,500 fun miles on the Bronco in the 15 months that I have had it.

Because if I get the 2.0 turbo, I will be tempted to tinker with it all the time. But to be even more honest, I believe that electric motors are perfect for low speed because they have 100% torque right away and then ICE engines are more efficient at highway speeds.

Obviously you find the higher trim levels are worth the price increase?

1) it was cheaper out of the gate, 2) it'll be cheaper to operate, 3) more environmentally considerate, and 4) I have no need for four wheel drive or the EB's performance (and the hybrid really isn't a slouch at all in daily use anyway). Pretty simple really

TL/DR

Value.

The up front cost.

Gas savings.

Maintenance costs.

Up front cost is obvious.

Some on the forum have pointed out that if you primarily do highway driving, the Ecoboost might be the way to go.... Malarkey. Yes on short highway trips, my hybrid gets about 33, but on longer trips when I'm using cruise control, the battery starts to get full and it sort of equalizes. When this happens the highway mpg goes up north of 35. I don't think there's any situation where an EB will catch a hybrid in gas mileage.

The maintenance costs are an oft overlooked part of the equation. Oil change intervals are more spaced out because the gas engine is running less. Brake change intervals should be more spaced out because of the regenerative braking. (Both of these are impacted by driving habits). Also, I believe the hybrid drivetrain has the best chance of lasting longer. When I first started looking into the Maverick was anti-hybrid because of the cvt. That was because I misunderstood what Ford's eCVT is. Simply put, there's far less moving parts. That in combination with the Atkinson cycle engines inherently cleaner intakes along with the higher pressure of the turbo makes for a powerplant that, IMHO, has less failure points. For levity, this is the point where EB owners chime in and say "what about the battery replacement costs?" From what I have read, battery failure happens far less than the fear-mongering EB faction of the forums would have you believe. A brief Google search for "Ford escape hybrid NYC taxi" will alleive many worries.

So, cheaper up front+superior MPG+cheaper upkeep=Superior value.

Now, all that said, if you need to tow more than 2,000 lbs, by all means, go for the Ecoboost. I'm not here to trash a decision anyone else has made by any means. Your money, your truck. That said, that's why I "went hybrid."

Enough truck for me.
