Why Buy a Maverick?

I am 79 and it gets harder and harder to get into my F250 SuperDuty and diesel at all time high was what motivated me to get a small pickup. As this will probably be my last new vehicle, I shot the works and got the Lariat Lux package, tow package, FX4 off road and most important the 360 safety package. The side and rear cameras are a necessity when it hard to turn your head to look back. It has been built and now am waiting for the call to come pick it up. Plus I can still go camping hunting and fishing with this rig and not take the big pickup. Can't wait.

Up here in Canada a base maverick is cheaper then a Corolla and civic.

Reason I chose it is I needed something that was good on gas, could tow a 4x8 trailer and haul my family of 5. Maverick ticked all the boxes.

Also it is quite mod friendly. I've been Tinkering with cars over 20 years now.

The Mav is fantastic, but just to clarify, in Ontario, Canada :
A base 2023 Mav is $32,295
A base 2023 Civic sedan is $28,746
A base 2023 Corolla auto sedan is $25,804.
Not sure where you’re getting your figures from. (I was just on the respective websites , msrp including freight. )

Thanks friend, I hope your maverick serves you well for years to come as well. I've often said that the maverick is the pinnacle of sanity within the current insane automotive landscape. In a world where many vehicles are massive, overstyled, overpriced, the maverick just makes sense.

I've been waiting almost 40 years for a vehicle that would provide the functionality and efficiency I had in my 1981 Courier 2.3. The Maverick is the first one to not only do it, but provide many more creature comforts at the same time. Yes, it's bed is smaller, but will still carry 1500 lbs., 5 people, and meets my current needs.

Amen to all of the above!!! I am still driving my 1981 diesel VW pickup because it is such a good truck, well sans creature comfort. But honestly, what truck gets 40ish mpg and can haul 1000 lbs in a 6-foot bed that isn't so high you need a step ladder to get the stuff?

I hope to retire the VW if I get my Maverick order. The mileage and creature comfort is my main goal. There is and has not been a vehicle that comes close to the Maverick that I know of for decades.

Having the extra dry space in the back seat will be great for tools and such and I will likely do a cover but not sure about a canopy. That is what I ride with now because that is what came on it when I bought it years ago. GemTop did a special one just for the VW Pickup.

One thing I will have to give up with the Maverick is my need to mechanic on the truck. That VW is so simple to work on, all I need to do it elevate it on ramps or jack stands so I am not bending over to get in the engine bay.

That and the goddam F-150's have grown into $50k monsters you need a ladder to climb into. Stock! My workplace has new base model 150's (white of coarse) and my god it's as big as the old 250's.

The Mav is so much more pleasure-able to drive.

My father had one of those also. I got to spend some time with it and even though it was kind of plush (this one had leather and air), it was noisy but fun in its driving and handling. Blew my Courier MPG out of the water back when diesal was cheap.

At 75 I have always loved a truck. My biggest issue is I barely stand 5ft 7in. Love the smaller trucks. Had an 81 Datsun Diesel, bought it over VW truck, which I ran 20 years. Then I bought a 2000 Chevy S10 LS. Still driving the S10. Always had a sedan to go with the trucks. Ordered 2022 Maverick Hybrid 10/06/2021 with the idea of unloading my 2019 Honda Civic Coupe and 22-year-old truck and just have one vehicle. The high price of used vehicles and the affordable price made since to me. Then on 9/11/2022 things changed. Someone totaled my parked Civic. But as I've said before in the forum it was all for the good. Because of high used prices they paid $27,000 for a car I paid $20,000 for. Offer from Carmax the week before accident was $23,000. So now I'm down to the S10 with cash in the bank with a production date of 1/13/2023. Yes, That's right Friday the 13th. Wish me luck.

I will buy one because:
I live in the Gulf South and run my a/c 10mo of the year, drive 90% city, just want it for weekend projects, no rear hatch to collect things, bed for adult & kids bicycles & it is THE CHEAPEST NEW HYBRID.

And being a tuner the EB would be too tempting to not modify.

It doesn't make any difference if the fuel is cheap or not. They got the MPGs others could only dream of. Where VW lost it to other small pickups is the extra cab thing. I think they should have started down that path of increasing the cab to have room for other things. The back of the seats was up against the rear wall of the cab.
Other manufacturers started playing the creature comfort game and VW didn't and I think that led to the demise of the truck. Most were sold in the 81-82 years and by 84 they were history. At least here in the states. You should see how they evolved overseas and in South America. Very nice trucks.

My decision was based on a need for this size truck with a fairly roomy cab, gas mileage, and cost. As old as I am, I went from buying new cars in my youth to buying used cars at auctions. This and the 2 door 2022 bronco picked up in March have been our first new cars/ (truck) since 1997.

I am so waiting for a fully electric 2-door Bronco. I keep praying Santa Farley will deliver in the next few years. Even better - a 2 door Bronco trucklet, like the Jeep J6 concept.

I have a Honda Element, I liked the utility of it. The looks are an acquired taste. I said many times that Honda missed an opportunity to make an Element small truck. The Element is getting up in the years so I started looking for a replacement. Not much out there! Taco, too expensive. Ranger, kind of pricey and too tall. Frontier S King cab 4 cylinder(2021), priced ok but still terrible MPG.

Then I saw what Ford was offering (By way of the Bronco forum) with the new Maverick. This was the truck I have been waiting for. Price was phenomenal and as later spy shots started coming out, they showed the tailgate and there was a Hybrid badge in the left corner. That IS the base engine and front wheel drive! That was all I needed to see. I built and ordered one as soon as they were available.

I have since put 9000 miles on it and have been very happy with it.

Good Job Ford! Now get busy making all the other adopters happy with their new Mavericks.

I had the Honda Element for several years and still see many on the road in VA. I liked it for the same reasons I like the Maverick…very practical design. The only downside to the Element was pretty lousy gas mileage for today’s standard. I think Honda stopped making them way too soon.

I’ve never been without a small truck, and the Mav is the only vehicle on the market that is truly a small(ish) truck; it is a foot shorter than the Ranger. The best part was that I was able to stay within my budget and still get the AWD and extras. It will tow my utility trailer well and fits all my junk while still getting great gas mileage on my short daily commute to work.

Yes, I still love my big and tall F-250 and I'd rather drive it anywhere. Maverick fit my wants for an urban errand-runner where parking or garage height is an issue. I don't drive enough miles to make mileage a factor at all. F-250 14 mpg, Maverick EB 22 mpg.
