I use my car daily. Somehow after work, I left the car with the blinking hazard lights on because of the snow all over the road. After one hour, I came back to find all sorts of errors—engine, steering, and all kinds of alarms—ultimately due to low battery. Fortunately, a Subaru saved me and I was able to start the vehicle. As of now, I have the engine light on, but hopefully it will disappear, or I'll have to reset it.
I replaced the battery about one and a half years ago.

By the way, if you're thinking about why you should buy a Maverick with the rear opening and sliding door—well, to pass the electric jumper cables through! That way, it would've been much less of a mess to use.

Huh? Where was the Subaru parked, that you felt the need to feed the jumper cables thru the back window, rather than thru one of the rear doors?

The right side was inaccessible because about a 6-foot wide, 3-foot deep snow bank accumulated during the recent snow storm. The width of the road was reduced, and parking another car next to mine to boost the battery would have stopped the traffic in the busy road.

Gotcha! You know there are jump posts under the hood, if the Suby could have been parked nose to nose, so you wouldn't have had to remove the car seat.

I wonder how well they hold their charge in the extreme cold??
Very well, even for ICE only vehicles.
And even when you forget to do an annual recharge. Maybe 2 yrs actually.

I had a lead-acid jump box in my car for a long time, it was plugged into the accessory-on power port so it'd charge every time the vehicle ran. I have a lithium jump pack now and just leave it plugged into the USB ports to stay topped off. It's way too easy to leave behind a device after bringing it in to charge, or forgetting to charge one and finding out there isn't quite enough reserve when you need to use it in 5F temps so I prefer to keep them topped up this way.

The super-capacitor ones should work with a recently dead battery (i.e. I left my blinkers on for a few hours) without needing any kind of charging maintenance if you're not keen on keeping a device plugged in all the time. Jumper cables don't need charged either 😀

I hooked my charger up the other day because I knew it was going to be really cold and I already didn't have interior lights when opening the doors (deep sleep). I bought one of those super capacitor jump starters so I wouldn't need to rely on someone else coming along willing to jumpstart my dead ass. Thankfully, I haven't had need for it yet. :fingerscrossed:

My stranding had nothing to do with the battery. It was the not so mighty oak! Also magnolia, hickory, telephone poles, electric wires and transformers. Oxford looked like a war zone! I am really going to hate it when I see the Grove after all the damage.

Wow - Sounds like it's bound to be a mess.

A family friend had to evacuate her place west of Nashville.

The southeast really took one on the chin.
I hope the recovery goes well for you.

About your error codes - I have a cheap blue tooth OBDII scanner and use an app called Car scanner. In addition to letting me monitor my battery charge states and some other handy information, I can view and reset any error codes. I know they can eventually reset on their own, but after my dead battery the truck went into limp mode and you don't want to try to drive like that. Did a quick reset with my scanner and all was good!
