There is no auto door locking issue. Ford even looked into it, they couldn't find it, since the Maverick does not have auto locking doors. The only time it can do auto locking is when it reaches a set speed, which means it has to be on and in gear!

Of course there is another possibility I hadn't considered before. He was throwing stuff around in the truck while the keys were in it, maybe something hit the lock button on the fob!
There is also an ability for Fordpass app to lock all doors.

Does it have a timeout, like remote start does?

Remote Unlock all doors - don't open drivers door actually - time spent on bike and back door.
Times out and locks all at coincidental time?

Testing it now!

ETA:
Remote unlocked 5:37.
Opened tailgate - needed to get something out anyway. Closed.
Came back after about 10 min and opened back door. Closed.
Total 25 min wait - back door still opened.
Remote locked.

Another idea that goes with fob lock being hit - phone screen sitting on Fordpass having Lock being pushed accidentally. There's a lag time there to action - coincidence again after pressing Lock button?

Of course - bug from Ford servers sends down lock command accidentally.

I don't use Ford app, so no idea. I've never had my doors auto lock if I don't open a door on the Maverick. My old Camry Hybrid did (120s), but the Maverick will sit unlocked all night if I accidentally bump the button while going into the house. If anything I'd rather it did auto lock.

Yes. But you can program it yourself. Very, very easy
I believe you CANNOT program the key yourself on a '24, but I or the manual could be mistaken. I know that you can no longer program a keypad yourself, and MUST take it to a disservice center for them to overcharge you for a 10 minute task as well as keep your car in their lot for several days before they decide to get around to it, maybe.

I could be wrong about the key; please enlighten us.

When I was a AAA driver and trying out as a 'repo man', we would have never opened it that way. We used Slim Jims, not the convenience store delicacy, but the tool.

But that was 35 years ago, and perhaps they make cars differently now.

In the OP's post. I was surprised that this wasn't used. I assume that without the "old pull knobs" that ALL my Rangers had... one of these would not work. 🤔

I haven't seen any examples of popping the lock on a Maverick, but a lot of modern cars have barriers inside the doors to block slim-jims.

Here's the how-to video:

You can get one of these bags at a hardware store, sold as a tool to hold up doors while you install/remove hinges.

In ye olde times, you could fish around between the door widow and the rubber flashing and pull/push some sort of connector or rod and open the lock. Dunno if it's possible in a Mav.

You can.
I have.

Manual doesn't describe it.

Often, we used other tools along with a slim jim including a doorstop-like wedge and flashlight where we could peek in and find what's going on. Sometimes we actually picked locks or impressioned keys. Also, many models were so commonly repossessed, we could do them in our sleep. I'm glad to see that they're making it more difficult to open cars this way. I just wish they would make cars more electronically secure so people couldn't fake key fob signals to take cars, and catalytic converters weren't so easy to steal

If the door tool had rubber coating on it like his in the video, and he had got it in the first few tries, this would have gone a completely different way.

I am thankful for these examples to use with the case Progressive said they are opening with AAA so I can at least get the damages covered, and maybe even the window I broke so the dude didn't yank my vehicle up on a tow truck incorrectly with skates at a 90 degree angle.

Although I am really upset with how things went (even more since it's snowing outside now), it kinda also leaves me with even more frustration a second level that AAA just tossed a guy in a truck with no training, will possibly fire him for this, and then just repeat with the next person that will do it for the least money with no training. Even if they have to pay out claims like this, it's still cheaper than paying a professional. Seems to be a pattern with everything lately.

A good Lishi tool will get you into almost any modern lock, since most cars still use wafer locks with some practice it can be done. There are even brand specific models on the market, including for Ford vehicle.

I would lean towards the key fob doing it. That has happened to me more times than I care to count especially when I put it in my pocket. And its even more annoying when you're at the gym, on the second floor, doing weights when you hear an announcement "A red Ford pickup is blasting its alarm in the parking lot" and you look out the window and its yours.

Mostly just a rant thread, and a possible warning for anyone who gets locked out of their vehicle.

[skip the next 2 paragraphs if you don't want to read about me being dumb and ranting]

I was out mountain biking alone today before snow hits and closes the trails down for the year probably. Loaded my bike in the bed when done, threw all my stuff in the back (including my pouch with the key in it, and my phone that I had unlocked the vehicle with). Shut the back door, and the doors all locked. I was the only one in the most remote parking lot of a state park, it's 25 degrees outside, my phone and keys are locked inside, so I had to ride my bike (with no gloves) about 2 miles to the ranger station. Call Progressive to use roadside since I couldn't use the Ford app on a good Samaritan's phone (multi factor went to my phone, locked inside), and 45 minutes later a tow truck arrives.

For 2 hours the AAA driver tried to get inside with a metal hook, a lot of it with me trying to guide him to the door unlock. I can see that the door trim and the paint around the door is being absolutely demolished. Finally he gives up and wants to tow the pickup to a locksmith, but it's in park with the parking brake on too. I see him putting it on skates and am like, no fudging way we are going to demolish a transmission today too yanking this up on a tow truck, so make a decision to just break the window in with a hammer and move along since it will be 2 more hours for someone to come pick me up, but the park closes in 1 hour, at which point I will have no shelter as winter bears down. Drive 2 hours home with no drivers side rear window (snowing most of the way). Now I have to get a window replaced, all this fixed, and file a claim with AAA for all the damages.

Lessons learned:
  • The vehicle can randomly lock, my friend who owns a tow truck also said Fords are notorious for randomly locking them when he's hauling them.
  • Call a locksmith if you're ever locked out, unlocking this car with a hook is not for amateurs obviously due to the lock button location, and the handle being hard to get at too
Good times... :crying:
Hey George, How much you paying the new guy? I did lockouts for over 20 years, without ever having one look like that!

You may be correct. I don’t know about key programming on a 25 but it was very easy on my 24. I do not have push button start either.

Was coming in to post the video you did.

That AAA guy was a total hack. I do actually have a bladder like the video shows and also some plastic wedges that don't damage the paint that you slide in and create the gap manually.

I'm not sure I could do it in 3 minutes but no more than 10 and I wouldn't have hurt OPs vehicle!

Sorry to hear of the event.
