I had mine done at ~6,700 miles, which was about a year after I got it. Truck runs fine. Based on the oil life indicator, I'll change mine again in May.

I changed mine at 2k miles. The stuff that came out of it was nasty to say the least and stunk to high heaven. Will change it again at 5k then every 5k afterwards..

I’ve poked around a bit on this already and decided to do the first oil change as soon as possible after break-in. I live 3 hours from the closest dealer, so I’m at ~2,500 miles. I’m at a conference so I scheduled the service while I’m in civilization. Once they got the truck, they told me the truck comes with Zinc in the oil that is supposed to be important to protecting and breaking in the motor and that I should wait until at least 5,000 miles. I haven’t seen this anywhere on the forums.

Anyone know if this is BS or accurate?

Trying to decide if I need to call back and ask them to do the oil change or wait until 5k.

Thanks!
I have never heard of that. However, I just took Bret in for the first oil change just over 5000 miles. But I followed the oil heath more than the miles. The health was at 47%.

I used to [until we sold in 2016] go up to Mmth alot when the kids were younger. I guess Perry Ford in Bishop CA is no longer? So you have to drive to Carson City? I'd do my oil changes locally or down in Bishop. No magic having it done at a Ford dealer. Just maintain documentation.

I would get the change done before the real cold weather sets in and be certain it is 100% synthetic. Check the owners manual for the recommended weight for those 10 degree mornings. So you have a couple of months leeway. Ford knows what they are doing so the "breakin" oil isn''t going to harm your engine if you leave it in awhile longer.

The breakin period applies conventional oil you buy at the store. That is true they use a specialized oil out of the factory that extends the oil life during this period. If it was an issue that cost Ford money on warranty issues they'd spell it out in the owner's manual. Just follow what the book says based on your driving habits or every 5k unless your oil monitor life gauge flags you first.

I have a 2.0L Ecoboost in my 2020 Fusion AWD. 1st Engine oil change at about 2000 miles. After that I change Engine,Transmission,PTU,Rear Axle once per year. I drive the Fusion 5000 miles per year. Cost about $200. with Motorcraft Products done at home.

I wont get into oil change times. BUT Optimus had his OEM oil analyzed showing the Zinc line the dealer gave you is BS. That shows they are clueless.

No such thing. These are always opinions. Provide data or what you like to do. But if you make factual statements then back it up with data.

Yes,that's why this break in oil should stay in until 5000 miles. Some changing at 1000- 1500 mikes might be doing more harm than good. Changing early is a practice of a bygone era. Vehicles have changed. Just offering my opnion 😃

No. Oil analysis shows normal levels of Zinc in the factory oil fill. There is nothing about the factory fill additive package that makes it a "break-in" oil.

As for the change intervals, use your own judgement. I have my opinion about that, but that really shouldn't matter to anyone.

All my dealership would say is to watch the onboard computer and not to change it until within 500 miles. They didn't state anything in regards to it being a special high zinc formula. It is my understanding that few oils now carry zinc as it is highly destructive to catalytic converters so I would question Ford puts it in new vehicles. I hope someone can come up with a definitive answer.
