Please do a more detailed comparison of the two. I'm considering moving to the frontier pro4x as well.
I will in the next day or two. I have a lot of good feelings about the Mav. Unfortunately, Ford ruined my confidence things went on with this experience created by Ford I didn't even mention.

Today I ended my saga with the highly anticipated time I would spend with my loaded XLT. It started in Oct. of 2021 when I Placed my order and welcomed it with open arms on May 5th, 2022. Almost 2 years to the day ... it's gone. The past 3 months have been a real pain in the ass. Ford Motor Company is at fault. In late February the first of 4 complete power losses occurred with my 2.0 Eco/AWD Maverick. They occur while at a stop waiting for a light change or at a stop sign. That is when the complete loss of power occurs and all the warning systems and dash signs start flashing. From that point, it will not restart requiring a tow truck to get it to the dealer. I need to add that this is with 39000 miles. Needless to say who pays the bill for this cluster from here on out? The dealer and Ford at this point can't figure out why this happened ... no reports of this happening and since the vehicle starts right up when it gets to the dealer the only code showing when analyzed is a loss of communication code. The battery is fine and they set the computer ... keep it a week and drive to see if it will do it again ... in the meantime, I am out of the truck I need and have no real answers. In March the same thing happened again twice. Reset the computer and keep your fingers crossed. I filed a case with Ford at the suggestion of the dealer ... that is a real disappointment and a complete waste of time. The service dept warned me they are hard to get a hold of even for them. How about only speaking to the Ford Customer Rep one time when I initially called while I was sitting on the side of the road waiting 2 hours for the wrecker?!! I can go on but won't. The picture of Mav was taken today at the Ford dealer while getting my stuff out of it. It is awaiting another recall fix for the body module causing the stop lights to Stop working. Then while my service writer was driving the Mav he was hearing a low growling noise in the rear end ... so they are looking at that next. Plus I have a bill for a new battery they say is now not producing enough amps to recalibrate the computer of the bullshit Ford didn't figure correctly when they built it. The cherry on the Sundae occurred this Wednesday when calling my Ford Customer Representative in Dearborn to get them to pay for the $270.00 battery. I waited on hold listening to some insane music repeated for over 20 minutes only to be told by a machine there were no representatives available to call back later ...click. The camel's back was broken ... I now have a 2023 Frontier PRO 4X loaded with 8,200 miles a $47,600 MSRP for $37,891. Nissan gave me $26,000 for the Mav that I paid $33,000 for 2 years ago

. And the dealer did the deal sight unseen and they own it and are picking it up from Ford when they are done doing their recalibrating and rear-end investigation.
.I am happy and sad ... I liked the Mav except for the bullshit for the past 3 months. The Nissan is a step up in the feel of more quality.
off from bad to bad

I wonder how much a dealer would give me for my 2023 Lariat fully loaded AWD Eco with 1,100 miles? Just curious 🤔.
Go to Car Max and Carvana ... CarMax had the higher trade-in value. It was very acceptable to me ... I had 14K equity and the difference between what I paid was 20%. Nissan was 24,500 until I showed them the CarMax offer of $26K ..... they didn't blink and the deal got done.

Thanks for telling us your story JH. If my 24 Hybrid starts to go sour on me I will consider doing what you did. That's a nice looking Nissan and the selling price is attractive. Good luck with your new ride and let us know the good & bad on your purchase.

I could be completely wrong here, but it seems like these loss of power hybrid and Ecoboost owners have had is caused by the battery being in a low state of charge, the truck doesn't detect that, and turns the engine off to save fuel, but doesn't have enough juice in the battery to start it again.

I believe Ford has identified how to fix this via a software update, and is issuing a recall to prevent this from happening moving forward.

Good on you. I'd do the same in a heartbeat if it kept leaving me stranded. That is a hard no, completely unacceptable for me. My ride must be reliable.

I was looking at the frontier before I got the mav and would consider that or a 4 runner if I had to replace it.

Let's hope so. I got the shut down last year. All good since that event.

Most likely would have done the same thing if I were in your shoes. Wish you the best sir!!

I do not blame you. You showed remarkable patience throughout the process. More than I prolly would have.

If Ford cannot figure out how to fix a vehicle they have made that leaves the driver stranded 4 times on the side of the road within a 3 month period they need to buy the damn truck back or give you a new replacement. Your choice. It's called customer satisfaction. Job #1.

Once a vehicle lets me down like that and leaves me stranded standing in the street or on the side of the road, the vehicle is gone. Life is complicated enough without the bull shit of holding one's breath every time the key is turned.

Best of luck to you.

Nissan dealers in my area are terrible. Ford dealers are decent. Quality of dealer service is always part of the purchase decision when I buy a vehicle. Our Maverick no problems though we do have open recalls. I was concerned enough about the potential reliability and repair costs of the Maverick to purchase a Ford extended warranty. Only the second extended warranty I've ever purchased for a vehicle.
Wish you the best on your Frontier ownership. I've owned one before and it was enjoyable to drive and about mid tier for reliability. Nothing major, just little stuff.

I am in agreement with you regarding your hypothesis. The recalls done since the end of March regarding the power loss issue seems to have stopped the postings in here of stalled Mavericks. However, Ford needs to get everyone (from corporate down to the dealership service department) on board with this. I've worked for 3 different MAJOR corporations and whenever there was a big situation, it was all hands on deck.

I myself did not want to wait for my local dealership to get up to date. Just yesterday, after my flooded Die hard battery that I replaced in January (after owning the truck since October of 2023) completely died. I installed a Duralast Platinum Battery, size 47 680 CCA H5-AGM. I made sure the new battery was fully charged up before I installed it. I then reset the BMS and let it set overnight.

Others in here have noted that in Forscan, our truck software is loaded to stabilize AGM batteries, not standard flooded batteries. It has been noted in here (MaverickTruckClub) that AGM batteries recover their charge faster and retain their charge longer. Thus AGM is a better battery for the software loaded on our trucks.

I carry with me my own booster starter and that is why I immediately went and bought the AGM battery. To think that a truck with barely 5500 miles would have issues like this! If I didn't like so much of the other things the Maverick has to offer, I would probably sell mine. With this new AGM battery, I feel I am done with the "sleep messages" and dead battery issues. I will be hooking up with a local person who has Forscan and have my battery setting changed from 80% to 95%. That should seal the deal.

I agree with you. I have voiced that to my dealer. When it goes into stop mode that's when this occurs. Then a few weeks ago when Ford announced the recall of 452,000 Bronco Sports and 52,000 Maverick loss of power while driving ... I thought bingo. My Truck is not one in involved in the recall.

Thank you for those details. Is that the best replacement battery for a 2.0L Ecoboost equipped Maverick too?

I've only had the conserving battery warning once.... and it made no sense as I had just done steady 55mph driving for 40 minutes (should have charged fully) and then as I pulled into the driveway got that warning.

OP thanks for sharing that. As an ecoboost owner I'll add this to the list of reported problems to watch for (no matter how rare).

One bad experience with a car or dealer can sour a customer against that brand for life. Alas, cars are now so complicated that more and more people are reporting dealerships that just throw up their hands in despair and start throwing parts at the problem.
