Well, it finally happened. almost forty five thousand miles and my front cv, axles has failed.. Took it in for an oil change last week. They said both front axles were leaking and needed to be replaced.
For the last twenty thousand miles and eight months, I have been hearing a popping or clicking noise under harder acceleration from the front but I was told that that's nothing to be concerned. It's normal.. So if anybody is hearing the same thing, have your front axles checked.. As I was told, the tremors have the upgraded cv and shouldn't be prone to the dreaded failure that the others have But apparently that is an inaccurate statement.
Just wanted to put that out there and see if anybody else with a tremor have had this issue or failure of their cv

Please report it to the NHTSA. Ford will never recall over this if enough people don't report it and the NHTSA doesn't investigate. Without an NHTSA investigation, at best we get a TSB for a bandaid fix that just gets the axles to last a bit longer until warranty periods lapse.

the axle is thicker and the bearing itself is WAY better, but it still has a shitty boot on it.

there are teardown pics comparing them in one of bwicka's threads.

Every time I read about a CV Axle failure on here, it was for a Hybrid. @Mavtremor24 I'm really interested to know if you are stock or modified. Tremor's have largely escaped this. There have been few posts where Tremor owners reported early CV axle failures but I chalked those off to incidental. I'm starting to see more and more of them though so I'm wondering if even the Tremors are going to start failing, perhaps just further down the road than what the hybrids are experiencing.

It's kind of insane to me that even Hybrids are seeing this and Ford hasn't done anything at all about it. CV axles should generally last at least 60K miles, but we're seeing failures at 25K on the hybrids. I for one will now be monitoring like a hawk for CV axles issues.

Wonder if there are any aftermarket options yet for a CV that will actually last a reasonable amount of mileage.

Also, can you post your cost for the replacement? I'm just curious to know if the cost to replace the CV axles on a Tremor makes an extended warranty a no-brainer

Yep, my Tremor cv (Front Left) failed at 8k miles.

The replacement swapped in by Ford has been good and I'm at 29K miles now. They said the front right is 2 piece and was able to move a bit more freely (to articulate with the suspension) so wasn't showing any wear, and that the front left was 1 piece with no "travel" and that's why that one sheared off.

I had a 1" leveling kit on it, and when It failed I pulled it off until better aftermarket CV's are available.

Hybrid / standard CV vs. Tremor CV -- comparison photos | MaverickTruckClub - 2022+ Ford Maverick Pickup Forum, News, Owners, Discussions https://share.google/3y88SdK8IP577aonx
that thread I believe has pics and criticism of the poor quality oem boots. I believe bwicka put on aftermarket boots after doing these teardowns.

thanks to bwicka we can see the Tremor bearing design is superior. that surely helps, but a cv joint without grease is still going to fail prematurely. because you have to pull the axle to put on a new boot, very few shops will do that work rather than just replace the whole cv axle. (technically, this is false, but the clamshell type aftermarket cv boots you can install without pulling the axle are very poor. they fail quickly.)

so, to me, fewer Tremor failures reported has 2 factors:
1) definitely a better cv axle
2) FAR fewer tremors on the road than any other kind of Maverick except for the Lobo, and I believe the Lobo has these axles also.

btw almost all failures thus far are front cv failures. AWD Mavericks of course have rear CVs as well, and these are very different for the Tremor and Lobo because they have a vastly different rear differential and unique axles for it. (you cannot install a tremor rear axle on a regular AWD maverick.)

Super informative. thank you.

I'm still scared.

The rear axles have a much much smaller range of motion required than the front ones. Interesting the rear axles are so different!

welcome. and regarding being scared... you can watch your cv boots but honestly, if they start leaking, a ford dealership is almost certain to just wait until the axle fails before doing anything. it would be smart to replace the boot as soon as you see leakage, but it's just a lot of labor and you really can't know if the joint is already compromised until you pull it out.

what would have been great is if ford just used a good cv axle and a good boot. crazy, I know.

I don’t believe this is a safety concern.
