I wish I still had a place to do a top speed run. Used to be miles of roads in the country to do this, now there is a house every 500 ft.

Never seen a car that didn't have a speedo that went to less than 120 ;)

Not sure if it's been mentioned as I haven't read the whole thread yet, but one of the more ridiculous speedos was in the Foxbody 5.0 civilian Mustangs, it only went to 85, pretty sure they went faster than that. The police versions had a higher speedo, 120 or 140 iirc, and the magic words "Certified Calibration" printed at the base (again iirc). One of the reasons the police Mustang and Crown Vic are among my favorite cars

Would be neat to see someone modify a Maverick for the track and see what it can do.

Took my modified Miata to 135 back when I had my rotrex on it. That's all the gearing it had in it at 7k rpm. Only reason I did was due to a group of people in a couple cars were trying to run me off the road and yelling at me to pull over. Didn't feel like sticking around to find out why.

Totally unrelated, but today marks one week since you took delivery of your Mav...how ya liking it so far? Any threads with pics?

Although probably not the case in the Mav, some RWD vehicles are governed because the stock driveshaft can't take the forces exhibited at higher speeds, according to rumors

It's great so far. Drove it all highway as soon as I got it and averaged 29mpg at 75mph. (Verified when I filled up from a 1/4 tank). My only gripes are the headrest doesn't have adjustable tilt and the dash is rattling/popping on the passenger side. Still going through the forums to see what options people have tried. Here's a pic of it next to my Outback. The truck is sitting about 1-2 farther back and as I didn't feel like lining them up.

To chime in on your other response. The Maverick is FWD based. And if you got the fwd only version, you're still limited to 110mph. I know my 03' VDC outback wagon is limited to 124mph. And it has a RWD based AWD system due to the uniqueness of the trans they put in that particular trim level. Which makes sense it's limited to 124 due to the H-rated tires it originally sold with.

Yes, the speed limiter can be moved to anywhere you'd like it, stock it is set at 109 mph if I remember correctly in the program.
How, please 🥺🥺😁

I got this from someone with a really nice AWD Maverick with 4k tow. ;) 108mph on their 245 65 17s tires corrected for size means 111 mph. No definitive GPS verification at this time. I will work on getting this from them in the near future.

They said this did not feel like all of their GM products that cut off at 112mph, and feel like they shut down hard once you hit that number like you were hitting a wall until you slow down and it catches up. Driver said this Maverick just kind of floated at that speed, not going faster but without that forceful cutoff feel.

Driver said it was completely stable and not scary whatsoever They said it felt like it had more to give. It was definitely was not in the RPM danger zone. It looks like it was in Sport mode and quite chilly.

It must have been smooth for them to take this picture at that speed.

Missed the no lecture/judge part of the thread...

Yes, my hypocrisy is evident while I'm lecturing and judging you about lecturing and judging others.

Bump, still in for figuring out how to change the limiter. Even my 3-cylinder Mini does 128...

Judging... guys who think going 108 is worth snapping a pic and telling your buddy about it.

Any more my cars aren't that fast and my hybrid Maverick won't be a scorcher either. If I want to do serious speeding I have to do it on the bike. But it's good to know the Maverick is steady.

I 'know a guy' who got a then-new early 80's Ford Taurus SHO up to the governed max speed of 142 mph on a closed section of highway... It was still pulling hard right up to that point, then just stopped accelerating. A lot like the video posted above (only at higher speed). Rock solid at that speed, but still... That's covering a lot of ground per heartbeat! He says "Never again!"
