My 1985 Foxbody 5.0 speedo went to 85mph. "Pegged" it out at 156mph on the GPS, still had more but ran out of runway. Didnt do any damage to the speedo and tires where rated for 186 mph btw. Car ran smooth at that speed but wind noise was loud due to the bad seals on the T-top. Engine was all stock.

My 1966 pointac ventura with 389ci got up to 130 but that was alittle scary since it floated around. Not a good solid feeling you want going that fast. Both speeds where off of public roads and on airplane run ways where they host drags. I would encourage anyone that wants to max their vehicles to stay off public roads to do so. Many options out there.

Never seen a car that didn't have a speedo that went to less than 120 ;)
My 83 Mercury Capri RS 5.0 had an 85 mph speedo with slashes that worked out to 120 or so.
It would go past the last slash mark.
I also had a 64 GP Pontiac with a 421 Tri-Power that would bury the 120 mph speedo, in 3rd. gear!
It had a 4 speed BW T-10, pretty sure it would have topped 140.

I got this from someone with a really nice AWD Maverick with 4k tow. ;) 108mph on their 245 65 17s tires corrected for size means 111 mph. No definitive GPS verification at this time. I will work on getting this from them in the near future.

They said this did not feel like all of their GM products that cut off at 112mph, and feel like they shut down hard once you hit that number like you were hitting a wall until you slow down and it catches up. Driver said this Maverick just kind of floated at that speed, not going faster but without that forceful cutoff feel.

Driver said it was completely stable and not scary whatsoever They said it felt like it had more to give. It was definitely was not in the RPM danger zone. It looks like it was in Sport mode and quite chilly.

It must have been smooth for them to take this picture at that speed.

Yep, someone I know with 2.0 AWD 4K tow, Pirelli Scorpion ATR 225/65R17 tires rated H (130 mph) told me that it definitely stops accelerating abruptly and levels off at exactly 108.

Back when I was young and dumb...I owned a 1971 F-100, built the motor from a 360FE to a 406 with a holley 600, had the C6 trans, 9" rear end, 9x5 recreational mirrors, ran a camaro to around 138MPH (not accounting for tire slippage), that was the calculated speed based on tire diameter, gear ratios, thankfully my tires didn't blow, they were only "T" rated at 118MPH.

What is crazy is that my 2013 C-Max PHEV has V-rated tires on it, but it has been a while since I tried a top speed run.

Most cars have a top speed limiter built in. Most are done by the computer some kill power to the spark plugs some just stop letting it accelerate. I asked an engineer how do they set the limit as they can be diffrent speeds he said its usually the highest speed of a rated part. Normally the tires they put on the car make the difference. Cheap tires aren't rated for higher speeds so the car makers set the limit for saftey. It has more then enough power to go way faster the tires might not be able to handle it over distance as they heat up more at higher speeds then the brakes get toasty as well.

2005 nissian pathfinder speedo was 110mph at the max and apparently you could hit the needle and keep accelerating because some people got it up to 125.

The ford maverick if you hit the gas gets up to speed quickly making merging easy om the side of a highway its kind of much power

Mine too, I did 120 one day, pretty easily.

A friend of mine said 107 in sport mode (should mode matter?) with XLT Eco... they got there easily and maintained and felt smooth/comfortable like it had a LOT left

Could have sworn I hit 116 in the Maverick the other night. Was on an incline downhill so that may have added to the speed.

I got a 1990 Ford Tempo to over 85 in high school. Not sure how fast as the speedo tops out at 85 and I pegged it.

The weird thing about the mav is that it doesn't have "slam you back in your seat" power so much as "WTF how did I get up to 85 so fast?" power. The computer seems to limit the torque from spiking up too high. Whenever I pass on the highway I find I have to check the speedometer to make sure I'm not doing like 90. Rock solid and smooth at high speed and this was unexpected since hey, it's a truck. My old 1980 toyota pickup would have shaken itself apart at anything over about 70.

Smoother than warm butter. Took a Subaru tech. Home on trip in my hybrid and he was shocked. Could not tell hybrid to ICE and so quiet and smooth.
