So hear me out...

I ordered my Hybrid Lariat Lux with SIBL, paint protection, and hard folding August 27/28 (one of those). I know it's going to be A WHILE before getting any build date, if it doesn't get rolled into a '23.

And I can't sleep...

So I played around and priced out my ideal ranger. $49k. My Maverick was $35kish. I played around some more and hit that "find inventory" button. And low and behold... the dealership that I have my Maverick order through has my ideal Ranger build already on order and in production.

And...

I just got a decent raise that makes the jump more than feasible. I had planned to upgrade in 3 years or so anyways. Now I'm tossing around the idea and will probably decide before they open their doors, but definitely want some input.

So...thoughts?

$14k more for a vehicle that's the same size, but slightly longer bed? And is dated with new model coming out next year? I passed on the Ranger for all these reasons and more. Although, I may switch to the next generation Ranger.

I would be hesitant to get a Ranger right now without some serious discounts (not happening) because the current model has been out on a global scale for 9 years or so and they are coming out with an updated model this year.

Lot of money for what will look like an "old" truck in a few months when the new one lands.

Saw lots of FX4 Rangers while checking out Mavericks. They look so overly long and the frame seems oddly mounted up high and the back end sticks up so much. Looked ridiculous to me but maybe the non FX4 units look more reasonable.

I would literally die before I spent $49k on a Ford Ranger. Seriously. I wouldnt spend more than $30k on a Maverixk either but thats me.

There’s soooooo many choices out there if’s you wanna spend that kind of coin. The rangers are getting a whole new change (so this was already outdated). If you really wanted a more capable 4 wheel Ford, a guy I work with just ordered a new F150 sport 4x4 crew cab loaded to tow his travel trailer and with all the discounts same price as your ranger. And if’s you don’t really need a Ford there’s tons of options @ $50k or less. But it’s your money/your decision.

I would look at a Ridgeline at that price point...super solid truck, the newer styling is a nice improvement over the older look, reliability is off the charts, and the interior and comfort is second to none.

I would wait, this seems like it might be an impulse buy. 49 for a Ranger seems like too much. I would wait on the Mav. My 2000 Ranger is wore out and I will keep driving it until my Mav arrives (if it ever does, I did not order until 1/25/22 so it may never happen).

Advice: When you get a raise at work, live like you didn't and save the rest. I get percentage raises every year and in turn bump my 401K that same percentage so I never get "used" to the extra pay from the raise. It goes to 401K and I never know the difference. Or use the extra wages to save for an even bigger down payment when your Maverick finally arrives.

I ordered Sierra 1500 yesterday as a plan b. Only a $100 to order. I have decent equity now with my current car that I plan to trade in for the Maverick lariat Lux, if that ends up being too small my plan would be to sell that again and hopefully make out with a good size down payment by the time the new sierra’s come in.
Usual dealer talk, maybe 3 months, maybe 9 months. They have no idea when they will be built.
Let’s see if I get a Mav even, 9/27 ecoboost order still waiting to get scheduled

Appreciate the input y'all. I will definitely hold off on the Ranger. Didn't like the styling anyways, would have added some aftermarket body parts for a better look. And @MikeInFla it's definitely the plan to keep paying down some other debt in the meantime. Mostly just getting tired of waiting for this one and may need something capable of towing a small trailer before the Mav comes.

I suppose I'll be waiting another couple of months and see what happens with some other trucks or my order status with this.

Thanks everyone!

I cannot bring myself to spend full dollars on something old. I won't even buy one that isn't getting replaced but is just old.

Definitely look at the next model year Ranger -- it fixes many of my issues with the current line-up, namely that you have to max out the features to get some "standard" upgrades. Also, the current Ranger has a TINY touchscreen, while next year's model is going to be 10" standard with an upgrade to 12". I'm right around the same order timeframe as you with a similar build, and my inclination is wait until the 2023 Ranger if the Maverick doesn't pan out, which seems increasingly likely right now.
