Just a reminder though, that's a Nissan Leaf which is one of the few vehicles that still has an air-cooled battery pack, making replacement much easier. The Maverick is going to use a liquid cooled pack. With liquids and very high voltages mixed together, you probably want to just leave it to a professional.
I'm counting on that by time my Maverick needs a battery change YouTube will be full of 'how to videos' or there's going to be robots to do it! 😆 🤣 😂

60% of the time it works every time.
60% of the time it works, 40% of the time, it's cargo.
A couple issues here:
1) How do you define lithium battery failure? With EVs, the industry standard seems to be that if more than 30% capacity is lost before the warranty is up, they will consider that a failure. ...
Li-ion battery life is not an issue in properly designed hybrids. Different usage pattern that's very life-friendly for Li-ion technology (rarely hot, never stored full). Owners report great mileage at 250K.

Folks think that hybrids (HEV) are the same as plug-ins (PHEV) and electric cars (BEV). Lots of common technology, but completely different usage patterns result in very different HVB stresses. It's very easy to be completely wrong, not unlike Nissan Leaf's reliance on air cooling in a BEV (or Ford's in C-Max Energi PHEV). Air cooling works fine in HEV, but liquid cooled batteries can be smaller and work better (eg. Gen 3 to Gen 4).

My grandfather is a long time Ford technician, he said the escape hybrids will typically be around $3k to replace with a used battery pack. Probably $5k+ for a new one.
Sure but in 8 years there will probably be an aftermarket seller for it that's not 5k. Same as with a prius

My friend had a 2006 Honda Civic hybrid. His battery lasted about 10 years and cost him 2k to replace (by an independent shop).

Old thread, hasn't aged well.
I didn't buy the Maverick, simply because it had a 1kWh battery.
The Ford fusion hybrid, has a 1.4kWh battery, and their batteries last about 94k miles, after which a serious performance degradation is noticed.

Ford refuses to acknowledge the battery had a problem, and the battery becomes worse and worse, until at about 133k miles, the battery doesn't even regen brake anymore.

A new battery costs $7k, and an old 2nd hand battery costs $2k; however, it lasts only 10-25k miles before it's wasted as well.

With sellers not truthfully declaring the miles those second hand batteries have, buying one is a sore mistake.

Good batteries with low miles, are sold as new, and batteries with 60-100k miles, are sold as second hand. To get a good second hand battery, is a gamble.

The whole scenario you describe is rare.

Vast majority; over 99% last the lifetime of the car.

But some horror stories stem from user error / mis-use including non-use.

Storing any battery operated device for months without use is the worst abuse you can do to it. Second, is living in an area routinely over 100°F.

What year Fusion? Because the 1st gens infamously have a software battery life timer that'll restrict usage as it ages even if the battery is perfectly fine.

Is not the older battery one which has a programmed (20%?) reserved capacity which is reduced based on installed date? Rebuild kits are available which contain new buss bars between the cells to replace the originals? Might be I am thinking about a Toyota battery. Seems like someone posted the maverick hybrid battery is sealed and not serviceable. In any case as the hybrid battery becomes less and less effective a reduction in mpg will increase until it operating just like a normal ice powered vehicle.

Well that second part, living in an area routinely over 100, puts me in a possible pending early battery failure, I guess.

True in older Honda hybrids with series drive trains. They were smart enough to add a 12v starter. You could drive them just like a regular car with a dead HV battery. Reduced performance and lights on the dash. But I did it for years in a 2000 Honda Insight.

That won't work in the Maverick that requires a minimum threshold in the HV battery to start the engine.

🤷🏻‍♂️

It's probably good for 15 years / 250,000 miles. Not sure the rest of the truck is. So I don't consider the battery the weakest link.

I am not sure where you are getting your pricing from, but you are way off , the hybrid battery cost $2,360.04 from Ford , new . https://ford.oempartsonline.com/oem...yMDIzJnQ9eGwmZT0yLTVsLWw0LWVsZWN0cmljLWdhcw==

And to need to REPLACE a battery would mean you had a fire/flood/accident or some kind of complete failure. Crack. Broken wire. Bad circuit board. Something.

These batteries don't "wear out". They just don't.

I used to be paranoid regarding hybrid batteries.

In addition to the Maverick hybrid, I had the opportunity last January to pick up a 2009 Prius with the original batteries, and they work fine. Sure they may not be as efficient as they were 15 years ago, but our tanks of gas this summer have been around the 45/48 city/highway EPA ratings on the vehicle.

With that vehicle and the Maverick, we are saving about $218 a month on gas on average, compared to the boat anchors we were driving last summer.
