its cheaper up front because its far less capable than the 250hp turbo with 4k towing. Its only perk is slightly improved MPG, but ownership costs will probably be more in the long run when the batteries go bad in 7-10 years.
Slightly improved mpgs? I average 40. Far more than your average ecoboost. And when you count the already high extra cost of the eco and 9 years( batts warranties for 8 except Cali where it's 10) then 8 don't think the extra cost is there.

We're currently averaging >49mpg. Depending on driving habits, the fuel efficiency between hybrid and ecoboost can be dramatic. Kind of odd how angry a few ecoboost owners on this board respond when they hear the benefits of the engine they didn't choose.

I agree with you on the facts. But I think you are wasting your time trying to "logic" this issue.

In reality, both trucks are good and there are many positive reasons one could suggest for preferring one or the other. But what's happening here is the opposite -- @FriarPop is trying desperately to convince hybrid owners they made a terrible choice.

My guess is that he is paying a lot more at the pump than he expected to and dissing the hybrid makes him feel better about his decision-making. So let him do that. It doesn't bother me.

I work from home and put 3000k miles on my car a year not really concerned about gas prices, but i agree my logic is good. Hybrid is also a fine car, just know the issues with the added parts, and it being a new model, ive been burned on hybrids in the past.

I'm glad you agree with you. o_O

Otherwise it would be... I don't know.. sad, or confusing, or both I guess.

It is only a slight improvement, you only get decent gains in the city for a small amount of time. There is also plenty of evidence of batteries going bad at 8-10 years. Thats why they set the warrenty at 8. I've had one and it went bad right after warrenty ended and it was a $15k repair, the $500 gas savings a year isnt worth it in the long run, hopefully you sell your cars after 6 to 7 years to avoid the issues that happen to All hybrids and batteries over time , especially if you live in a super hot or cold climate.
The US warranty is 8 years, because of laws in several states require that be the minimum for HEVs.

So one out of millions means they all fail at 8-10 years? All hybrids? Counter point, my previous vehicle, Camry Hybrid, was 15 years old, still on the original battery, sounds like more than 8-10 years to me. It more than paid for itself in fuel savings.

How long the battery will last will depend on a lot more than just how many years you own it. It's how many load cycles go through the battery, how good the software managing battery wear works, the quality of the cells used in the battery, does the cooling system manage battery tempertures well enough/is it maintained, ambient temperature extremes, how you drive (lead foot puts more strain on the power train/battery), does it sit unused a lot, and more.

the only reason why the 2.0 is viable is because they didn't make a AWD 4k hybrid. Id wager that most likely that was on purpose to create the illusion of options with the maverick. could be that the Ecvt isn't a strong option for towing but I could be wrong. I love my 2.0 but I'm not going to pretend the hybrid doesn't suit 85% of my daily driving. I'm just more of a 100% capability type guy so opted 2.0 with every package and its relative affordableness.

You also agree with me on the facts. But yes, I agree with the facts also.

I think that’s what they call “trolling.” He seems to be experienced at it.

As years go on technology gets cheaper. There was a time an automatic trans was a hefty upcharge. Now a manual is. Ford is now producing this system in house and soon the batteries in house as well. I think we are just seeing hybrid systems become cheaper as they become increasingly more mainstream.
About time to make the chips in-house. I can remember when we didn't need to depend on other countries for so many things.

I would have went with a hybrid if I could have gotten AWD. As far as mileage goes my current DD gets slightly less an ecoboost does, so I'm good. I only drive 18 miles round trip to work in back mostly freeway. 8 days on shift 6 days off shift. Its only 144 a week, add in driving on my off days for running errands my total every 2 weeks is maybe 170 miles. I typically get 2 weeks out of 15 gallons. My DD is about shot. So my mileage on this new one will be a bit higher. I put capability over economy. FWD is decent in snow. That's what my current car is. But AWD is even better.
