  1. First Time Snow Storm Performance Review (AWD Maverick in Wisconsin) 👍

We got DUMPED on last night here in Utah. Visited the in-laws for like 2hrs, went to leave and our car was covered in 2ft. of fresh powder. In-laws begged us to spend the night (really). We decided to drive home and made it fine, cruising at like 20mph the entire 40 miles home. Good thing we...
  2. Engineering Explained: Do You Really Need AWD or Winter Tires? (summer/all-season/winter tires, and FWD/RWD/AWD)

Maybe we're just used to the blizzaks on our Jetta, but the stock Continentals on our hybrid suck and are not good in snow. We don't really need a 2nd car, so the Maverick is just parked in the garage most of the winter. I'm sure with some proper tires it would be a tank in the snow, but we'll...
  3. Engineering Explained: Do You Really Need AWD or Winter Tires? (summer/all-season/winter tires, and FWD/RWD/AWD)

My wife had a WRX when we met. We've had 5 cars since, none of them with 4 drive wheels and we live in the Utah mountains.
  4. Engineering Explained: Do You Really Need AWD or Winter Tires? (summer/all-season/winter tires, and FWD/RWD/AWD)

Huh? There are countless comparison tests where all factors are controlled for except tires and/or drive wheels. While yes, these vehicles may have minor differences (ie an AWD version of a vehicle that also comes in FWD may have slightly different suspension), but it is otherwise impossible to...
  5. Engineering Explained: Do You Really Need AWD or Winter Tires? (summer/all-season/winter tires, and FWD/RWD/AWD)

There are countless objective tests comparing performance of various vehicles and the difference AWD/4wd makes compared to proper (winter) tires: this isn't debatable, tires are the most important aspect of braking/turning/sliding in cold, slippery, icy, snowy conditions. All things considered...
  6. 2 for 2 on Windshields

My wife came home 4x in ~6 weeks with a new chip in the windshield. I had the first two filled and sealed, and now am just taking my chances with the other two. Somehow we had it for over a year without a chip or crack, then... FWIW, we've had to completely replace the windshield on our VW...
  7. Interior durability input?

We're closing in on 2yrs with our Maverick and we have two kids; we have no scratches that I am aware of, but I agree with this sentiment. I am definitely aware that I'm driving a $25k truck. Yes, I'd be a bit perturbed if I paid $35k for it...so I didn't. If you can't live without those...
  8. Why are people complaining?

We absolutely love ours, but it was clearly built to a pricepoint. For $20k-$25k, the Maverick is a freaking deal. If you spent >$30k, I can see how you may be a little miffed by the quality of a few things, but IMO $10k of faux leather, a mediocre (at best) "upgraded" stereo, and some more tech...
  9. MPGs FAR below advertised and hype. Are you all telling the truth?

Before moving to Utah, I lived in Mesa and Houston (for a combined 8yrs) with a truck that had no functioning AC (or heater, although I would have never used it). I'll defrost the windshield, but otherwise I don't think I've turned on the heater or AC in any car in the past 20 or so years, when...
  10. Would you buy hybrid again yes or no

Without the hybrid and the pricepoint ($26,200 OTD for XLT with a few add-ons), we aren't considering a truck. Almost 2yrs in, still feel the same. Zero issues and 50.1mpg.
  11. MPGs FAR below advertised and hype. Are you all telling the truth?

We're at ~9,100 miles, on-board estimate currently says 50.1mpg overall in our hybrid. Who knows how accurate that is, but we usually are getting 700 mile tanks. It drops pretty significantly with the cold Utah winter. This is about 50/50 my wife's all highway commute and me puttering around...
  12. New Wheels & Winter Tire: Fifteen52 + Firestone Destination

Ummm...besides the fact that they unequivocally improve braking, turning, starting from a stop in cold, icy, and snow conditions have you ever driven a vehicle equipped with proper winter tires? The difference is dramatic, immediately noticeable. I drove a RWD pickup without snow tires for my...
  13. 2nd vehicle to pair with Maverick Hybrid, $10k budget

FWIW, it's a 5-speed manual. We have a '17, got it for nothing thanks to Dieselgate (<$14K OTD new). That 1.4t is a marvel; actually has some low-end grunt and we easily average high 40's on the highway. And shockingly ours has had no major issues for the first 7yrs and ~80k miles.
  14. Painted 20" wheels in Area 51 body color

IMO the color and the size of the wheel/tire combo look awful. It probably looks a lot better slammed (and there are many examples of awesome looking Mavs on large wheels on this board), but still not my cup of tea. Just my opinion, but color matching of exterior color with wheels (or even...
  15. 2nd vehicle to pair with Maverick Hybrid, $10k budget

This is one of the worst times in decades to be buying a used car. So, IMO instead of wondering what to buy, maybe ask yourself if the Maverick checks all the boxes, this is just something to drive a few thousand miles a year with no real need or purpose in mind, and there is a pretty strict...
  16. My Parked Ford Maverick Victim of Hit and Run by Toyota Tacoma

That SUCKS. Early in the morning on January 1st, 2010 I was awakened by a loud crash. Ran outside in my PJs and watched as a suburban struggled to get traction in the snow to flee the scene. My Nissan pickup was completely totaled and they never found anything. I only had liability insurance...
  17. "Goose" Maverick build is done...for now. Paintmatched bumpers / plastics & lowered + Katzkin seat covers

Kinda' the same reaction. Really didn't like it at first glance, but it grew on me as I looked a few more times. I don't know about EVERYTHING being so monochromatic (especially matching outside paint to the seats), but it works pretty well with this specific truck.
  18. 2022 Hybrid vs ecoboost reliability

Similar experience. Two years in, my Mav hybrid is tied with a Hyundai accent for being the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned; smashing, among others, a Toyota corolla and civic. But, I'll get back to you when the warranty is over.
  19. Hybrid is no longer standard (now a $1500 option)

Not only were we not interested in a Ford or a truck for our next vehicle, but we weren't even in the market for a new vehicle when the Maverick was announced. Without a hybrid at that pricepoint, it would have been another 3-4 years before we were even considering another vehicle at all.
  20. All-Weather vs All-Season vs Winter Tires

Yes, of course, common sense is the biggest factor, but it is less about the snow and more about the cold. The compound is different and all-seasons get really hard when the temperature drops. Even if you never get any snow, winter tires are safer in any cold condition. We have blizzaks on our...
