Tailgate not level with bed.

My God another F-up from Ford. Built Ford tough! It looks like crap with the tail gate hanging lower. These are brand new trucks for gods sake. No attention to detail, I agree with the carpenter ...come on Ford! WAKE UP!

While I’m not one to defend Ford’s imperfections, I think that you are perhaps overreacting.

The tailgate is rated to carry 500lbs which is approximately 1/3 of the payload. The tailgate is roughly 1/3 of the bed length. If your an engineer I will let you do the math.

That 500lb limit is with the tailgate completely flat, in the lifted position it is only rated to carry 400lb

Think it’s intentional to keep some of the weight off the tailgate. If it was level or even a bit higher the tailgate which has limit of what it can carry would take the brunt of the weight.

Okay 2 thoughts. Maybe the tailgate is level, accounting for the factory rake of the truck, it could be actually level.

Secondly is there a bushing missing on either the cable ends or the points they attach to? If missing could it account for the drop?

It doesn't keep some of the weight off the tailgate it keeps all of it off the tailgate. It is not intentional it was an error.

Either way at 1/3 of the length of the box plus tail gate it is rated at 1/3 the payload. It is "rated" to carry weight not dangle in the breeze.

It is not a matter of esthetics it is a matter of function and I was not outraged just pointing it out for other people that might want to haul a coule 2x4's with their new "truck".

To act as a support, it needs to carry the weight of an active load. They rated it to do so. It was NOT slanted on purpose. In fact the half-cocked position puts it under more stress than any other piece of the truck so your argument falls flat because they did design that on purpose.

I’m a former automotive engineer and now aerospace and I believe that it is likely that way for a reason. The reason being to shift the bulk of load carrying away from the tailgate. Just a hunch. I noticed it immediately in the first photos I saw. Seeing it still bothers me from an asthetic standpoint.

Yeah, I was wondering about that aspect. Despite my sarcasm, as an engineer, I also wonder……could there be a valid reason to have it like this? Just doing a simple web search reveals LOTS of similar instances across a variety of manufacturers. At the end of the day (or maybe at 2AM) it just buts the living crap out of one’s OCD nature.
