Resurrecting this thread. I have the same issue. Was it ever resolved? I had an Extang trifold great cover but I can no longer get under there to remove it if I have too. I liked the x15 because it has the same fabric look as the Extang. Starting to regret the purchase.
Move the driver side metal black rail with the Velcro forward a little more towards the cab.
That’s what worked for me!
Cheers

Thanks, I thought of that but it's hardly compressing the foam piece on the tailgate now. But it's worth a shot. The instructions said 3/8 from the bulhead. But then no compression on the back seal. Actually made it 1/2 so it would.

I had that issue, and others, so ended up exchanging for the BAK X4S.
I found that the rear of the rail was bending/tipping down as I latched the cover; easily seen with tailgate down. There wasn’t enough bed metal at the tailgate end of the bed’s side, so the rail was tipping. I tired a shim and it helped, until I tried to tighten the cover more (to try and reduce the cover flapping at 45mph) and I was back to it not latching again. It was a ball ing act I gave up on.

I still have the extang and don't want to abandon a new 550 dollar cover. The Bak to rich for me at over 1k. But I have that invested in 2 covers now.
I should have just gotten a cheap roll up. Had cheaper Truxedo rollups on other trucks they worked fine. I am not interested in the low profile aspect of it. I just liked the fabric look that the extang has. I did contact their tech support. They want photos. Photos of what? The thing not working? I don't have the flapping issue I intend to back off on the tension first see what happens then maybe move the rail up like the other poster said. Should not be this hard.Thank you

I had picked the Truxedo to save the money over the BAK, as well.
I bought from RealTruck and they had a 30 day free exchange policy, so I was not out the money on the Truxedo, just had pay the difference.
For me, it worked out in the end, love the BAK.

Yeah I tossed the box. But great that they took it back. Yesterday I tried it after it's been on a day and string in the Sun and it worked perfectly A forum member bought my old extang and asked for a tour of the truck as he has not gotten his yet.

I reach in under the loose cover about 6 inches back with my left hand and grab the rail. I pull up on the rail while pushing down on the cover just enough to have it latch. Then secure the Velcro. Works every time.

Got to say after being installed for 2 days the tension on the cover loosened up quite a bit
Now it closes perfectly. Still not a big fan tho. Must say looks nice, ran it through a touchless car wash not to much leakage. For now I call it a win
Thanks. Still think the design could use some work though.

I think I ran into a similar behavior. Instructions say to have the cover unlatched when closing the tailgate, and then press the cover down to latch it for the best weatherproof seal. This wouldn't reliably work on mine and it sometimes refused to latch. It seemed like pushing down on the cover pressed the entire side rail with the latch in it downward very slightly due to the latch's stiff spring. Then when trying to latch it by pressing the rear cover bar downward, it contacted the gate top and couldn't be pressed down any further but the latch still hadn't clicked & engaged.

Here's how I fixed it. I cut a 4" piece of stiff scrap aluminum (in red) and slid it between the latch bottom bracket and bed side. This was enough to keep the rail from flexing downward a couple of millimeters and the latch now worked reliably.

Very interesting. I did contatch truxedo customer support. They told me to close the cover then the tailgate. Which is not correct. But now after being on a few days seems ok. So that shim is similar to a cross type support. May have to revisit that thanks
