I'm sure someone has done something like this, but I didn't find it in a quick search, so here it is:
I wanted to have both the front and back dividers at the same height as the wheel wells and tailgate (at half open). It seemed like a no brainer to add for 4x8 sheets sitting level in the bed. This way the sheet (or anything else loaded in this way) is supported all the way across in the front, back, and at the tailgate (no sag in the middle).
I have the Ford modular bedliner, so my measurements are a little different than what is normally posted here.
I had some extra 2x8s that came from something I demolished, so that is what I used (free is good).
As you can see, I ripped the 2x8s down so the tops are the same level as the wheel wells and tailgate. I also notched the bottom corners so that the bottoms rest on the bottom bed liner (water can still run under, but I have a bed cover as well, so I am not worried about the bottom of the boards getting wet or rotting).
Here are the sizes that fit snuggly for me:
Front - 43" long, 6 1/2" tall (bottom corner notched). The modular bed liner doesn't have the full slot up front (clipped to be more like a flat bottom V slot), so I beveled the ends at 45 degrees to fit better. Hopefully that makes sense (it should if you have seen the modular liner).
Rear - 54" long, 6 3/8" tall (bottom corner notched). I also cut ripped another board at 5" tall that can be added on top, which gives a divider that goes to the top of the slots in the bed.
Here are some pictures of the ends to help with my descriptions.
Bottom notches:
Beveled edges for the front divider (viewed from the bottom where the notch is):
This way, I should be able to load sheet or other long things without them sagging in the middle). Since I was planning on adding the dividers, it just seemed to make sense as an additional feature.
