$32k for an XL seems a little steep unless you meant XLT. MSRP for XLT tremor seems to be close to $32k new. Here's an idea out of left field lease a new Nissan Frontier while you wait for the Maverick to open up order banks? My brother just got their pro 4x trim with all options for like $360 a month with only $2200 down. It's an 18 month lease so should be enough time for the 23 banks to open and for you to order eb the way you want it and pay MSRP. The money you would be spending over MSRP for this Maverick you could get some value out of and you can hold onto your taco. Seems to be confirmed that the next Tacoma coming in a couple years will be a 4 banger turbo instead of a V6. People are already buying the V6 models because they don't want a 4 in a truck so your V6 could be worth more if you keep the miles off with a frontier lease. I think Nissan did a great job with the redesign and I have been tempted after my brother got his to get one myself. He's getting 18 city and 23+ on the freeway. The only variable would be if Ford opened order banks in a few months to take more EB orders for customers because they have a lot of capacity or they could just take dealer stock orders and cut the model year production short.

Sorry, yes. It’s an XLT with Lux Package, FX4, and spray bedliner.
Just saw this after I posted. That's a pretty good straight trade if that's the configuration. Maybe get on turo to see if you can rent a Maverick for a couple days and take it up that trail?

This may belong in the Maverick vs. forum instead. So apologies in advance if it should. However, my question is that I’m really toying with the idea of swapping my Tacoma out for a Maverick. I have some pros and concerns listed below. What are your thoughts on the two given the info I’ve provided? I would be getting the FX4 2.0L Evoboost or possibly a Tremor down the road once availability becomes more prevalent.

My driving habits: My daily commute it roughly 50 miles round trip and I don’t need the rugged off road capabilities, however I am certain that in the last 10 years of being a Tacoma owner I have probably spent roughly 5% of my driving in places I’m pretty sure a Maverick would not reach.

Argument to keep Tacoma:
  • Off road capability - as mentioned above, the Maverick would suffice for 95% or off roading I do, however it’s always the last 5% that are the most memorable
  • More camper options - only current option for Maverick is a GFC. Unfortunately, I would require a camper.
  • Toyota reliability/longevity - I have no concerns about my Tacoma lasting to 250-300K without any catastrophic failures
  • Equity in resell value
Argument to get Maverick:
  • Significant improvement in MPG’s - after my research I would guess about 22-24mpg after lift, wheels, and other mods (my Tacoma gets 18mpg with current mods for reference)
  • Would be able to pocket some cash when I sell Tacoma
Main argument against Tacoma:
  • Horrible mpg for someone who drives 20,000-25,000 miles a year (Maverick would save about $700-$1000 on an annual basis)
Main/concern against Maverick:
  • Ford reliability - I’m bias towards Toyota’s reliability as I’ve been fortunate enough to never have any major issue. Moving to a company like Ford worries slightly
Why are you thinking of replacing the Taco? Biggest problem, is trying to get a Maverick, you will wait between 6 to 12 months I think, also will pay top dollar at this time, again, Ford reliabilty is questionable. Only thing in the plus column, is a low price, and new vehicle. Anyway, order one with no money down, and decide when the truck arrives. I love my Maverick fully loaded Lariat Hybrid, but I never could afford a Toyota with the same options (except the hybrid) for under 33K Out the door. That's my way of thinking.

My first post highlights the reasoning for swapping. Mostly MPG’s on a 50 mile daily commute.

I also have a private party willing to sell without much mark up so I wouldn’t be waiting 6-12 months. As far as I know the books to order a new Maverick aren’t open, and predicted to open in early or late summer. The ford reliability is my biggest and main worry.

There is no question that you should buy the Tacoma based on your post.
1) Tacoma really is a truck with Toyota reliability.
2) Tacoma is really capable offroad and has a bigger bed
3) Has the 2nd highest retail at 5 years over every brand and vehicle behin the Wrangler Unlimited and followed by the Wranger 2 door. I have a friend with 250k in 8 years and has done only basic maintenance.
4) The maverick has not been proven offroad yet and isn't marketed that way. IDC what they slap a badge on that says Tremor.
5) Ford's QC has gone down, as a Ford loyolist and stock holder it pains me to say that.

Pro Maverick:
1) lower to the ground
2) better mpg

Realistically, I'd say get the hybrid for lileage and keep the Tacoma you have for the best of both worlds.

Appreciate the input, but I would not be buying a Tacoma. I already have one. I would selling to get a Maverick FX4 + cash. I also am least concerned with off road capability and most concerned with reliability and gas mileage. There’s also no way/reason for me to get a second vehicle in the form of a Maverick hybrid. I’d have to calculate it all out but I don’t see the mpg savings outweighing the cost of buying an entirely new vehicle.

I don't really have an opinion as I've never had a Tacoma and my Maverick is a hybrid.
However, I saw this thread and remember thi video below. I hope it helps!

Gotcha. Don't forget to see the value aspect. While the Maverick certainly is pulling a premiuim, hard to overlook the Tacoma being the second highest vehcile to retain it's value.

I'd crunch numbers on fuel cost etc.... My money says its a toss up.

Both video’s definitely help. I think I’ve seen just about ever maverick off road review out there by now hahaha as polarizing as off roading is, the videos certainly solidify me ranking off road capability as least important when comparing.

Yeah. I thought he did a good job of being fair to both. I was surprised by his comparison of the interiors. The Maverick definitely looks roomier. The AWD seems to keep up with the Tacoma when slippery is the concern. The ground clearance is apparently the biggest issue. Especially given how easily it looks like the plastic bits and pieces are going to get torn up underneath the Maverick, I think "if you're not SURE you can clear it in the Mav, don't even try it."

Ain't happening. Hybrids are an upcharge with Toyota not standard equipment like Ford. I could see mid $20's gas engine with $3k upcharge for hybrid from Toyota. That's usually how they roll. I'd say at least 3 years out at the earliest. Probably not as easy as lopping off the back of a Corolla cross and putting in small bed. Plus supply shortage are still a thing even with Toyota they reduced their forecasted inventory every month last year and made a lot less vehicles than their own projections.
Toyota should make the Cross as a small pickup. Rented one and loved it. Up and down hills in Sonoma wine country and got 38 mpg with gas engine. Great handling and comfortable

Definitely if you really want go off roading into steeper hills etc id say lift it 2.5 and maybe little bigger tires than stock. It can do most general courses though.
