It's meeting all MINIMUM requirements.

Refinement is not a requirement.
at MINIMUM your car should not surge forward with brakes applies and at MINIMUM your camera should not freeze and/or lag when backing up.

Refinement would maybe be improved brake pedal feeling and a HD rear view camera.
You first need to meet the minimums before you can make refinements.

I have a HD rear camera in mine. The clarity is excellent. The night vision is spectacular, better than human eyes.
What's wrong with yours?

The cheapest truck in North America folks, the cheapest truck money can buy.

Gotta keep reminding yourself you paid very little for this thing!

Lowering expectations fixes so many gripes! Try it today!

Well, I guess cheap depends on your perspective. 🤑 I'm that weirdo who will still pick up a penny off the sidewalk.

I paid 10K for the used 02 Ranger that I'm still driving today. I didn't find that to be cheap at the time. I don't find 30K-ish for the Maverick I have coming to be particularly cheap. Will it be reasonably priced? Time will tell. That will depend on if it proves to be a relatively low maintenance and reliable truck that stands up to the test of time.

Anybody had any success to get dealer to reproducing this? It's a minor annoyance that I'm willing to live with but I'm worried that it might cause additional wear and tear on the transmission etc.

I've had my truck for less than two weeks.
I started noticing this lately but only in the morning when it's a little cooler.
My only thought is that it's some sort of high idle state the engine goes into with cooler temperature until it's warmed up.

The engine is always at its normal idle speed of 1250 RPM when this surging happens.

In cold temps there are times when the engine will idle at 1500 RPM to generate heat quicker. This will generally go down to 1250 as soon as you start to drive. These are the only two idle speeds that I have ever seen and unrelated to the issue being discussed.

Agree.

We need to define "cold".
Cold for the engine is water under 120°F and/or catalytic converter under "light off" temperature.

It is cold engine related, but not necessarily weather related.

Another datapoint: when the truck is stopped and tried to go forward I switched to neutral and the truck is no longer trying to overcome the brake. However the engine makes surging noise and sounds like a bucket of marbles.

Just a thought, but until Ford has a solution I would try slipping the truck into neutral when this occurs to help prevent damage or any accidents

Is this thread dead? Seems to be an issue for me on my '23 Lariat. Not the end of the world since it doesn't actually "move" but just wants to move with brakes applied. Weird issue.

Mine still does it a little bit on occasion. I haven't done anything about it. Hasn't been bad in a while. 2022 hybrid.

New to the forum and a '23 XLT HY owner. Mine does this as well, and mostly noticeable on cold high idle in drive with brakes applied. After watching it for a month or so, I think the 2.5L torque output varies bit more when cold, and unpredictably, which isn't perfectly countered by the generator/motor that controls the gear ratio and traction/engine torque contributions to the wheels, if my cursory understanding of the system is correct. Thus the surging. Don't notice it after the engine warms up.

Pretty much.

When the battery is "low" during warm up the generator will be generating to recharge the batteries. Being under load seems to smooth things out.

If by happenstance you have an already charged up battery during this warm up, the generator will not be putting load on the engine so the engine runs a little rough.

I have experienced this.
But ever since I started taking care to drive home in EV the last mile to lower the battery, this phenomenon has not returned. So this is my working theory.

Plus I feel it is better to do something useful (recharge) while burning gas to warn up vs. burning gas to simply warm up.

Try it a few times. Do whatever it takes to park overnight with a low HV battery.
Report back if you think it runs more smoothly the next day.

It's a little ridiculous but may solve the mystery at least. Works for me.
