Seems to be a relatively common issue. Mine still does it and I haven't done anything about it. Only one time has it been so bad that I really stood on the brake HARD to keep the truck from moving forward.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Absolutely insane - someone (like a pedestrian in a crosswalk, hopefully not pushing a baby stroller) is going to get hurt.

It is unbelievable that this is even a thing.

Anyone with this issue should report it to NHTSA
https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem

You should also document it in writing to the dealer, and keep your records of the complaints. God forbid you ever need them to defend yourself in a civil lawsuit or worse, criminal court...

2022 xlt lux hybrid. Just started happening to me, South Carolina, 90 to 100' weather, 7500 miles. Hade grabbed brake issue before, but the software fix seemed to work.

Occurs under one specific circumstance, and then only briefly. When the gas engine first starts when overnight cold, as you're coming to a stop, it will pulse/surge for maybe 30 seconds or until you get going the first time with it running, and then she won't do it again. - I can get to the main road on only electric, however, sometimes the ICE kicks in just as I'm slowing to stop at the stop sign. It's only on that specific occurrence that there's any surging/pulsing, otherwise the hybrid drivetrain is as smooth as can be. (Maybe six times in 4 months).

This is 100% the 23-2248 recall. I suffered from the same thing and had this done and its amazingly better.

This is exactly my experience. Further - the state of charge of the HVB does not seem to have any effect on this scenario. It seems like the truck applying a load (or retarding timing) to the ICE to warm up the primary catalytic converter. Mine will usually "chug" about 5-6 times and I will see ~50RPM fluctuations in ICE rpm at this time. As soon as it is finished, the generator begins applying a more stable load and charging the HVB. I can hear feel this load being applied and all this data is from the OBDII port.

Sorry you feel that way, but thanks for being helpful.
They are right though, it’s a different issue. I had that other TSB applied and it stopped the shudders handing off from ice to gas, but doesn’t matter for this issue at warmup for my first stop sign where it wants to lurch forward.

I've had this issue a few times as well. It's not often that it happens, I got the truck in May and it's probably happened 4-5 times. And like others have mentioned, when it does happen it seems to be on the first stop of a drive. When this happens I put the truck in neutral for a few seconds and then switch it back to drive and that seems to stop it.

I'm seeing this. You're not alone.

I've had it happen twice, both times in the exact same circumstance: cold start after sitting for 4+ hours and then driving only a block or so before stopping for a light. It's while sitting at the light that the surge forward/back happened, and then as soon as the light changed and I went about my business it did not re-occur. Twice over about 1300 miles now.

I just took my maverick in for the first Oil Change + tire rotation. I mentioned this EXACT issue & the grabby hybrid brakes. Dealership said,

We verified the audio screen concern, we ordered a new screen. For the brake concern we were unable to verify but there is a technical service bulletin that applies to Mavericks built before 04/11/23 for a shudder or vibration felt during low speed braking when the gas engine shuts down and the vehicle is operating in electric mode only. Ford says this may be due to software in the PCM, we updated the software . additionally we performed the needed maintenance ( lof and tire rotation). I’ll call you when the display screen comes in.
however after this I am still having both issues. Grabby abrupt hybrid brakes (seems like the truck doesn't transition from regen breaking to pad on rotor smoothly). & this exact issue. I described it as, randomly on cold mornings you will put the vehicle in drive and while your foot is on the brake its going: nudge nudge nudge nudge nudge.

Yep. Frequently reported.

At work I back out of a parking stall, put it in drive, creep at idle 250 feet, and must stop at an electric gate, and wait for the electric gate to open.

With foot on the brake at the electric gate (15 to 20 seconds) feels like the truck wants to "pounce" through the gate sometimes.
