Is that liner actually sprayed up underneath the glass? How the hell were they able to do that? o_O 🤔
I wonder if they removed the bed or loosened enough to get a gap? Haven't seen how this bed is attached yet, not sure on the effort it would take.

The bed does not come off, this is a unibody vehicle.

I wonder why they did not take the bed liner all the way to the rear window, rather than leaving that bar of painted area. I feel like that would have looked better anyways. When I have line-X spray mine in I am going to have them cover that part.
My son just landed Lariat off the lot (I’m waiting for build date) and the top bar has paint versus spray. Looks like it is easier to draw at the bottom of the bar than up to the window, which I think would look better.

So I’ve made a few posts about my XLT in Cactus Gray. Let me start by saying I love this truck, and I’m happy with my dealer. They gave me the Z plan, and more for my trade in than I even paid for it last year! They are also helping me get all of these issues fixed!

1) they found a crack in one of my wheels and said they are replacing all 4(I still don’t see the crack)

2) my interior weatherstripping on the driver side door is not flush with the door, and the truck whistles past 50 mph

3) there is a very small paint chip/bubble on the rear passenger side

4) on the rear window where the bedliner meets, someone did a really sloppy job. Honestly don’t know what’s going on with that.

Side note,

I used my Ford points and ordered the tailgate damper, black Maverick lettering, and FITS package through FairwayFordParts. They were 20% cheaper than directly through the Ford app, and free shipping. Plus they accept Ford points.

I also ordered a Gator tonneau through realtruck.com. I have the guys email. He gives 20% off the website price and free shipping if you contact him directly.

My guess is so that a tonneau cover's weather stripping can seal better? Just a guess, so who knows.

Yea definitely understandable, just because a vehicle is cheap (yea sadly 30k is cheap) does not mean it should not be good quality.
I disagree. If I was buying a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, I'd expect perfection to the point that I want the suede seats brushed in the same direction. A $30k Maverick comes down the same line as a $21k Maverick.

The cracked wheel is concerning, but the other points are insignificant to myself.

I bought a brand new Ford Edge with a similar paint defect in the DSR fender. I'm guessing it's welding slag that wasn't ground off before the car was painted. I'd rather have factory paint than a respray, so I never mentioned it. I barely waxed that car and had no issues until 170k miles when the vehicle was sold.

My Nissan Frontier has more overspray with its factory bed liner than that.

My Honda Odyssey had a similar weather stripping issue. I used a trim tool to reseat the weather stripping.

My Honda HR-V was the only other brand new car that I bought. That was also a $20k car like the Maverick. In fact, I bought the $20k version...LX base model, manual transmission, 0 factory options, 0 dealer options. Like the Maverick is now, I bought the HR-V on its US release year in 2016.

I don't even remember all the fit-and-finish issues...tailgate itself and the A-pillar trim was slightly misaligned, PSF seat creaked, had a rattle in the map lights, DSF window would rattle if it's in any position other than all the way up or all the way down. The soft-close feature for the center console lid stopped working. The OEM windshield wipers freakin' sucked. Not to mention I dented the hood while casually leaning on it, and I'm not a big dude. Oh and the paint adhesion recall for white orchid pearl. Luckily that car was garaged at work and at home, so it was really only in the sun when driving or at the store.

All those were eligible warranty repairs, but I never took it in. It's a $20k car. It's designed to meet a price bracket. If I wanted better fit-and-finish, I'd buy a more up-market car. Not a more expensive trim; that's just putting lipstick on a pig. I mean like a CR-V or a Passport or something. That gives the automaker some breathing room to use nicer materials, tighter tolerances, and spend more than 32 seconds with it at each assembly or inspection station.

Ford should still make sure you are taken care of, and it sounds like your dealer is doing that.
I agree. If I really wanted to, I'd be taking the car in for everything since it's under warranty and that's part of what you're paying for. But to me, for an econobox vehicle, if it runs and drives, doesn't leak, and the HVAC and radio work, everything else is gravy.

Excellent information. We can all look for the same defects when our vehicles arrive. Can you give us the build date for your Maverick?

Do you think the guy from RealTruck.com would extend that deal to a few more of us? If so can we get his Email address? " I also ordered a Gator tonneau through realtruck.com. I have the guys email. He gives 20% off the website price and free shipping if you contact him directly. "

I mean from what I can tell Ford, all american auto manufacturers, and possibly all auto manufacturers period suffer quality control issues. But particularly American ones.

In the Ranger forum a lot of people had misaligned body panels and such. On 40k trucks.

On top of that this truck is assembled in Mexico which isn't going to be known for it's QC.

Well I suppose at the end of the day it will be up to each of us to take a long, slow look at our Maverick once it arrives and look it over before leaving the lot. Sure, you like to believe that the QA inspection would catch every fault, but those QA inspectors are human and since this isn't an aircraft those inspectors might not be as critical. Hell, even aircraft inspectors miss stuff, thankful it's very rare. Anyway, I'm going to try to rein in my Clydesdale called "enthusiasm" when I see my Maverick for the first time and try not riding off into the sunset without checking Mav out first!! 🤣 It doesn't matter if it's a $20k or $50k truck stuff gets missed sometimes and as the customer it's up to us to hold the seller to the standards they promise.

I posted this on the subreddit as well, and all kinds of trolls saying this kind of nonsense. I paid 30k for a brand new car. I expect near if not perfection.
But yes, very irritating, but I’m trying to stay positive.
That reddit is the worst place to be in and mods are totally nuts. Stay clear is my advice.

Still doesn’t mean it wasnt super tough to do!

I also questioned leaving that part exposed. Easily done if spray in was done before the glass (which even factory I think is done after the fact vs an earlier stage in the build process)…but considering the glass is literally right there, I’d be worried about it far more than the paint so nothing should ever be on that part of the bed that would cause the need for protecting it that significantly…as well as a degree of that little strip across thousands of units saving a little cost.

after the fact with a 3rd party…I just don’t think I’d trust anyone enough to do it without pulling the window, and I wouldn’t want the window pulled out of a new vehicle for the sake of doing it. While some good shops will be mindful and do it well like the XLT pictured, I’d be very concerned that the typical places end up getting some material on the glass, or worse yet, essentially seal the glass to the liner. I don’t think I’m going to bother with that strip when I get mine on account of that.

Interesting...I am following this forum and Santa Cruz forum before I buy.

Was really leaning toward the SC but the QC issues there are serious---like a tailgate that opens itself on the freeway (potentially really dangerous to the guy behind you) and leaking sunroofs and electrical gremlins and of course... of course...the DCT transmissions that blow up on the way home from the dealer!

Have almost crossed the SC off....

Oh...almost forgot...the guy whose SC was delivered with the bed not attached to the vehicle!

So after reading all the issues, some of which are life threatening, on the Santa Cruz and you still are "almost most crossed" SC off your list?! What more would it take for you to cross SC off? 😆 🤣 😂
