Where the hell is gas only $3.50/gallon?
Here in South Dakota, Costco is $3.22 a gallon. Other states, like Texas and Georgia, are cheaper than us.

Where the hell is gas only $3.50/gallon?
Most places in the States will outdo California in terms of fuel prices as a general rule of thumb. I went to college out there. After graduating, I moved back to Appalachia. Upon leaving California, gas prices were somewhere around $3.00-$3.20/gallon (this was obviously before the fuel price issue). When I arrived back to East TN, regular unleaded was sitting around $1.60-$1.75/gallon.

Right now regular in my neighborhood is between $2.80-$3.10.

As a family vehicle, I'd certainly pick the Honda. Of course, my choice of family vehicle has long been crew cab SuperDutys or F-150s. These days with so many 3-row SUVs out there, I'd also look at those.

I personally preferred the Maverick to Ridgeline. Ridgeline feels squishy, sluggish, and outdated interior. It's bigger and just doesn't feel as sporty. I have a $39k MSRP Maverick that I picked despite being able to afford a Ridgeline. And I'm glad I did.

It's not about buying a cheap truck for everyone. Maverick is every bit as refined interior as a Tacoma and Frontier. I like the Maverick because it is comfortable, sporty, and compact st s reasonable price.

+1. I also have a '21 Pilot, which is a Ridgeline with seats instead of a bed. The driving experience is much more "engaging" in the Mav. The Pilot is floaty and numb of most feedback. Interior sound levels are about the same. The Pilot interior F&F is better, but the Mav is more useful with better ergo. The middle seat in the Pilot is much roomier then the Mav or the RL, but the Mav is also roomier than the RL. If you have long legs, and are sitting behind a long leg driver in the RL, your knees will enjoy the cup holders in the door panels that prevent you from spreading around the seat back.

Bottom line....for me, if both vehicles are task-worthy and available, I'll take the Mav every time. Not to say I don't like the Pilot, I really do. Great for hauling 5+ people, or when you need to keep cargo under-roof. Used it as a "truck" until my Mav arrived, and it performed like a champ. But the Mav has won me over, and I find it more useful & appealing than the Pilot (or Ridgeline). The fact that it's less expensive and gets better FE is icing on the cake! 🤠

Have a 2010 Ridgeline we use in our business that just rolled over 400,000 miles and basically all we have ever done is maintenance and replace the catalytic converters. That being said, give me a Maverick beside a Ridgeline and I will choose the Maverick 12 out of 10 times. It is just a personal preference of a vehicle that looks like a truck, while the Ridgeline joins the Santa Claus (Cruz) and looks more like a caruck.

Well, 87-octane is averaging about $2.89 here in central Texas. It was even less in the DFW area (at some stations, at least).

The MPG difference between the Maverick and Ridgeline are actually somewhat significant (21 vs 25 combined). The Ridgeline is likely to cost you $250-450 more per year in fuel. Worth considering if the costs are important to you.

Mpg difference maybe even greater as I’m getting mid 30s out of my AWD lariat lux on highway.

National average is currently ~$3.40/gallon. It's a bit more expensive than that here in Utah (~$3.80/gallon). Californians tend to not realize that a lot of the country doesn't live on the coast of the Pacific Ocean...wife and I both grew up in California (and you couldn't pay us to move back).

In all fairness...

For someone, who purchases the Ridgeline for substantially more than even the Mav Lariat, the extra cost of fuel per year probably won't matter. At least it wouldn't had matter much for me, since it was going to replace a 25 years old F150.

I was close to get a Ridgeline for around 48K out the door, but they only had black color that I don't like. Other than that the Ridgeline is a nice SUV and has more functionality than the Mav, like in bed locked storage, side-way opening tailgate, longer bed, better ride, etc. Yes, I tested it couple of times. I did test drive the Maverick as well and having one it still does feel like a cheaper built SUV.

I did pick up my Maverick Lariat three weeks ego and the "buyer remorse" is starting to go away. There are still quite of bits of annoying things with the Mav and browsing through the forum, some of them are here to stay. It would take too long to list all of them....;)

Would it be the same if I purchased the Ridgline? I will never know and it could go either way...
