I'm now worried about paint chips affecting my MAV and I don't even have one. Maybe I'll never get one :|
Well the good news is that for most of us who won't see our Hybrid Mavericks being delivered until December 2021 or later (my build is scheduled for 11/15) is that a lot of EcoBoost Mavericks will be delivered (Stock & Retail) and on the road and if the "paint" is an issue we should hear more about it. Hopefully we won't hear more as maybe it is just a rock issue.

Come the beginning of December a Poll should be made for owners of Mavericks about their opinion on the paint.

My Hybrid build was the same as yours last month, 11/08, changed to N/A,, then changed today to 11/15, bumped by one week forward.

To all who wish to save some money : (most of us who are buying the Maverick :) ) Get some factory touch up paint, some body glaze and micro brushes and learn to touch up those spots that are gonna happen. Lots of instructions on the internet. Unless you cover the whole body with PPF and plan on recovering every 7- 10 years

This is what is making me rethink my decision to put meaty 245s on my truck. Maybe I will just go with 235s that stay under the wheel wells.

.
Same here. I just ordered 235 toyos

To add: Most popular Glaze is by Bondo, in a tube just like toothpaste. Apply a very "very" small amt to your finger tip and wipe it across the gravel pit...when it dries in 1/2 an hour it creates a "concave" area in the gravel pit so you can apply a very tiny amount of paint with one of the micro brushes...worst mistake people tend to make is putting on too much paint so it stands up out of the gravel pit...should be even with the rest of the paint....then days/weeks later when paint is totally dry to being hard, buff the repair with a mild compound....then wax.

Just to give you an idea of how paint quality can vary (and cost), Many of the acrylic colors I employ as an artist can cost $600 per gallon. It's humbling to know that our hoped-for babies are only worthy of one measly, cheap coat of color.

How long does a wax usually last for?
Depends on what they’re using. Carnuba wax in summer can be gone in less than 2 weeks. Sealants usually last from a month to six months. Once you get to SIO2 products you are usually looking at six months plus.

Anyone going to do a ceramic based coating for protection?
Planning on putting CQuartz UK v3 and might top it with CQuartz SiC.

Thank you, thank you. As a hobby I have rebuilt painted six 911 Porsches. The technology of paint products is 10 times better than it was 20 yrs ago. ALL depending on type of paint...good automative paint starts at $80-90 a gallon, and better paint could easily be $250 a gallon...(read the labels on cans of automotive paint and it tells you 60 to 90 days depending of heat treatment). A $19k dollar car is not going to get a premium paint job. Been thru the Porsche factory tour 3 times, just for the fun of watch my car get painted. Paint takes time to cure...many manufacturers use clean room with heat lamps for several days to speed up the process. Different colors take different times to dry/cure. Some if not most, economical cars get a primer then 1 final coat of your choice colors of paint...maybe a few hours to dry...then pushed back into the assembly line. Higher end cars may get 5, 6 or more coats of the final color and clear coat harden lacquer applied.
Gees! Ceramic coatings are one of the better things for paint protection in the last 10 yrs.

But ceramic coatings protect against water spots, block dirt from the paint, and maybe sand...but ceramic coatings are simply a very hard coating that wears off after 1 may 2 years and has to be reapplied. Ceramic is not going to defect gravel. 3M type plastic wraps are good but the Mini-Cooper I had wrapped 10 yrs ago turned a yellowish tint after 4 or 5 years and looked bad, and had to be redone...so i just pilled it off and did a ceramic coating. Plastic wraps are great for areas prone to gravel attacks.

FYI a good body shop with a tube of glaze and their tiny paint brush can fix most gravel pit damage so you can not even see them. Since many people dropped mud flaps during their build, it would be wise to put on upon delivery. My Current vehicle has flaps for the front and REAR of the wheel well so that is what I will be looking far since my Maverick is primarily going to be an off-road vehicle.

When the Mini-Cooper first came out everyone was screaming about windshield getting pitted with gravel & rocks....but justifiably BMW would not warranty windshields since it was gravel coming from the roadway.
I am genuinely grateful for your expertise from experience... Since I live in FL with gravel, junk and LOVE BUGS (2 xs per year) I will look into the plastic coat / covering. Do you have any suggestions on reputable companies that do this work?

I did drop the mud flaps on my order, but have since purchased the Gatorback that I plan to install right after I take delivery. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it.

I'd Google for shops for plastic coating applications...In my area the same people doing window tinting do plastic coating installations. The Maverick black plastic bumpers take care of a lot of the gravel prone areas. Bug splatters - ceramic coatings will take care of most bug debris. Ceramic Coated my Cayman S 2 yrs ago and it still repels water like off a ducks back. Literally most washing is just misty garden hose spray and dirt just falls off...but do a brisk drive to dry the car off or use a microfiber drying cloth to get rid of water spotting.

I quit the film stuff years ago since I like to wax a car every few months, until I ran into Ceramic Coatings. You can't wax the film plastic coatings. What I do, is I bought a 3'x8' roll of plastic film (3-M)(very cheap on Amazon and even cheaper at Ali-Express) to apply on interior bottom of door edges where shoes scuff the door getting in and out, and also around dash areas subject to scratches....and anywhere plastic is going to get scratched....when the self-adhesive plastic sheets gets a little abused I just pull it off and replace it...again it is very cheap. If I find exterior areas likely to get hit with gravel I will certainly apply plastic film over those spots....I will definitely get a bug guard for the front of the hood...but will be looking for a bug guard that stands more upright than Fords bug-guard, upright bug guards definitely help keep bugs off of the windshield....

Anybody can do a ceramic coating....just buy a Ceramic Coating Kit that has all the proper Application Pads, and most important the high quality Micro-Fiber rags....and follow mfger's directions. For a Maverick, 3 TO 4 hours max...but car has to be stored away from rain for 24 hours. The better kits normally run in the neighborhood of $100...but one bottle can do a car twice OR two cars. Many if not most do not include the wax/tar removeable but everybody shop I reviewed suggested it is very generic and the Rustolium brand was what most of the body shops used...cheap - quart bottle is like $4.50.

The tires aren’t throwing stones on the front of and top of my hood.
I had and still do have a 2009 FWD Sienna. have had it for a long time. On several occasions in the NE Vermont mud season I have had mud that ended up on the hood and windshield. It flies up off the rear of the front tire (when turned out) and comes back down on the hood.

If paint curing or drying is accomplished with heat, could infrared lamps help the process at home?
