FWIW, I'm curious to find out if my HPR paint is thicker and has fewer problems for the $395 upcharge. I'll be taking it to the detailer after delivery, and I'll ask him to throw a paint sensor at it and report back here next month.

I'm not expecting much. Just kind of curious if there's a difference between the various paint packages and colors.

I have the same question. Someone started a thread with that very question but no one ever replied.

Paint protection film is like most products in that there are good ones and bad ones. Even the best film will eventually need replaced at around the six or seven years.

My grandaughter has my 2009 Pontiac Solstice. Left outside under pine trees and it doesn't look anything like that. It has one small spot 1/4" x 1/2" of orange peel on the side edge on the hood. Other then that you can't even tell it has PPF on it. It was 3M product installed in 2009.

Did you use the 3m stuff on amazon? I havent found a roll big enough to do the hood in 1 piece? Ive done some window tinting in the past and did some vinly wrapping on a friends car. So I dont think it will be to bad. I may do the smaller parts first as I dont wanna waste a $150 peice of PPF
I used XPEL in 6" for the rear and 2.75" for the front. Along with a couple of spray bottles with soapy water and tack solution. Total cost was around $60 including bottles, razor blades and diabetic needles - I got a few air pockets in the first rear door I tried...Should have done one of the fronts, but the rear driver door is the one my dog is going to beat up, so I figured start there as it'll be the first replaced. And it looks plenty good, doesn't bug me and no one else sees the dust spec that is under it.

I suggest doing a smaller PPF first if you've never done it. It's not hard, but its a skilled task.

Based on all the scratches mine got from the dealer, and then a rock chip in the first couple hundred miles, the paint is much much worse than my 90s BMW's or 2019 Hyundai (or friends 20teens Hyundais, Subarus, Mazdas, and Fords...).
Yes but I own a PPF business and covered the whole truck
Looks good sir. Maybe I should consider doing the bumper. A detailer friend is going to touch up the rock chip, and I probably should wrap it before it picks up more chips. But thankfully in another 2400mi on the vehicle since the first chip, the bulk of it on the freeway, I haven't gotten one yet. But soon we'll have more gravel on the road.

Where are you located and how much for the whole truck? Local place quoted me 7500 for a 28000 truck

Saw a video of a guy doing the hood with ppf on a Tesla and it didn't look too hard. He really went to town with the soapy water spray bottle under the ppf and on top of the the ppf so he could keep adjusting the sheet.

It's not "too hard". But pros make it look a lot easier than it is. It's like rebuilding an engine. Pretty simple. But also a skilled task.
