There is a great explanation by Alex On Autos as to why the Montana cannot come to North America, even if GM wanted to.

I had an older square style S15 and currently drive a 2000 S10 (4.3 ext. cab LS 4x4). I've worked on them both and can tell you that each succeeding version became more over engineered and, well, crappy. That 4.3 pulls nicely but anyone who's owned one can tell you the mpg is no better than a full size truck which is what they invariably wish they had every time they stop at a pump.

I have little faith in automakers nowadays, especially the General and FCA.

No hybrid... not interested. It doesn't look front drive as well. It's just hype.

I still use my 2000 S-10 LS regular cab 4 cylinder as a spare vehicle and it's been a great truck (leased new for 3 yrs. and then bought it at a discount from residual value - those were the days!). And it still gets 24-25 mpg highway.

The Maverick Hybrid is what I really want, but if an S-10 Hybrid is released while I'm waiting on the Mav, I'd seriously consider switching to it.

Looks like it’s designed to compete with the Ranger, not the Maverick. As a matter of principle I pass on Government Motors products.

You can buy S10 Max today if you travel south of the border. Maybe visit birthplace of Maverick while you are there.

The Mav might be a little fake truck, but at least its square, like pickups should be. If I wanted swoopy, I would buy a crossover. Or keep my crossover.

As an aspiring designer, I can say what works about the maverick is it has sharp, consistent lines that flow well, with thoughtful surfacing dancing between said lines and within the confines of the overall shape. Every other small truck misses the mark. Look at this monstrosity, a lot of people may realize that doesn't work visually, but can't verbalize why. It's because there's no consistency, no thru line to the design language. This is a major issue with many modern designs. Look at how busy and agressive the front end is. Then look at how basic the side is, it just isn't uniform. If you're gonna make an agressive design, make the entire design agressive, not just the front bumper. Inversely, if you want to make a clean design, keep it clean all around.
