Im surprised chevy hasnt moved on this market latley. A s10 hybrid would sell great. Toyota should be making hybrid truck.
it would poach sales from the big selling mid-size trucks

Toyota has no interest in low margin vehicles like this one. Hell, look at how expensive the Tacomas are with an interior that was last redesigned in 2010.

I don't see them entering this market. Same with Honda.
The Tacoma interior dates back to 2016. The platform 2005.

I like toyota, but I don’t see them being price competitive. The Corolla hybrid LE costs more than my XLT hybrid.
Having said that, I LOVE the vintage 70 land cruiser trucks they sell overseas, but those are $40,000+ for the smallest one.
Their vehicles seem to run on the higher side, which is why I always bought Hondas in the past.

My Tacoma has all the options standard that you have to buy the lariat luxury package to get, minus heated seats& steering wheel. I bought heated seat covers for $50 that keep my seat cleaner anyway. I’ve got a rear locker and crawl control for off-roading. My truck also came with wrangler duratrac tires as well. Only downside is fuel economy which I’m getting 18 city 21.5 hwy.

I would buy the toyota in a heartbeat. I have 290,000 on my 2002 4runner. Getting a M23 Mav. I'll drive my Maverick until I see something better. If?

One of Ford's motivators for introducing the Maverick was they killed off all of their entry-level vehicles and created a void in their lineup. Since they're truck/SUV only, they had to make something at that pricepoint. Other makers didn't lose the bottom end so they may not be similarly motovated.

Amazing how many people here are Toyota fans. I guess they really are stealing Toyota's sales with the Maverick.

I mean clearly they see success of the maverick and will want piece of that market , plus the colorado is going to lose customers when they raise the prices on the 23s . They have good ev suv cross over market but clearly need a compact truck .

It would be pretty cool if Toyota and Honda came up with a small hybrid pickup to compete with the Maverick.

help me understand your logic that Toyota NEEDS a compact truck in the North American market? I'm confident their marketing division and planners internally have already studied this market and worked up $ numbers to make mass production of it profitable- yet they chose to push the last couple Tacoma generations to mid-size and have a new 1 ready to introduce. I don't know how many Hyundai Santa Cruz have been sold, but Maverick sales are tiny compared to Tacoma annual sales. We're talking ~120K Mavericks sold for MY2022 all the way back starting production in Sept 2021 and 87K Mavs sold for MY2023. So total = ~200k units for 2 model years. What slice of that do you think Toyota can steal away and make a profit on a new compact?

They need truck with better mpg . If they want just make the taco hybrid /ev they could do that . They’ve already said they have taken notice of the ford maverick success. The taco engine will need evolve to hybrid to compete in 2024,2025 etc. going foward they will need to adapt. They are already redoing their ev division .

The apparent high demand for a compact pickup as shown by the maverick should serve as an example. The ranger and taco are similar market segments. Toyota should try it but the question is if they can do it as profitably.
