I’m glad this worked out! In the future we should organize a spam call 📞 the crap out of a shady dealer. Organized of course so that we ask for the manager of the guy ripping the customer off and we all say certain things.

High five.

Thank you everyone! I got a call earlier from the manager of the dealership. He apologized for the "confusion" that may have occurred and the "Texas Protection Package" has been removed. I will be heading down today after work to sign off on the new pricing.

I appreciate everyone who leaned into to reach out to the dealership to help me make this right. I really did feel like I was stuck with nothing to negotiate on. My goal was never to harass, annoy, or disrupt the dealership. So, at this point I'd appreciate if you left them alone unless this happens again!

"They" the only one who has to know is THE finance guy who only has to have earpiece linked to microphone in his office. He keeps his percentage up and unknowing manager is happy that he is so good!
Your giving these dealership employees way too much credit .......

Probably, unless there's some exception to the law that I don't know about.

Or unless they are willing to commit felony to listen to you and your wife talk. (And if they did, dozens of people at the dealership would know about it. It would just take one disgruntled employee to bring the whole thing down.)
You can certainly use surveillance in a business. The cameras would need to be visible for the most part. The general rule -

Post signage.
In any setting where you are conducting video surveillance, put up notices that inform your customers and employees that they are being recorded. This is a courtesy to those affected so they aren't caught off guard.

General video surveillance laws
The best general video surveillance practices allow for monitoring in areas where there's no "reasonable expectation of privacy." This is a person's legal right to privacy and the expectation that the public is not privy to their personal conversations or information. The expectation of privacy is not absolute and could change case-by-case.

Physical areas where one doesn't have a reasonable expectation of privacy could include a general work area, such as an office or floor space in a retail store. Typically, any time a person is in public, there is not a reasonable expectation of privacy.

There are certain public places, though, where there is a reasonable expectation for privacy. Any location where you're changing your clothes or staying for a period of time, such as a hotel room, fall into these categories. Other examples of private areas where you should not record include but are not limited to:

  • Bathrooms
  • Shower areas
  • Bedrooms
  • Locker rooms
  • Changing rooms
  • Private residences
If you put up signage notifying of video being used ( which everyone ignores ) then tape away such as a grocery store, department store and yes, a car store. The suggestion that the finance guy is listening in like a supervised visit in a prison is totally creepy but not "illegal"

Your references are about video surveillance -- which is, as you say, legal in most circumstances.

But this discussion is about audio surveillance -- listening in while people talk -- which is illegal in most circumstances without consent from at least one of the parties.

The two are treated differently under the law. You can check out this link (from my prior post) for more information. See: State Audio and Visual Surveillance Laws (nar.realtor)

I did not say it was not unlikely but experience has shown me that there are bonus focused individuals that will do things. In all likely hood the person has the ability (maybe subconsciously) to know exactly when to close and can also detect when the spouse wants to tell you to cool out and just take the deal. Maybe even to the point of how long he needs to leave. There are some that in a quick draw duel that can wait many minutes and can feel when you are going to draw 1/2 second before you even know, a thing that's hard to beat.
Don't take your guns to town the dealership son

I'll definitely update with what happens in May when I get mine in El Paso. Kinda have me nervous now!

Just thought I would share this with the Texas Maverick community.

My vehicle is scheduled to arrive later this month so I went to the dealership to prep paperwork. While I was looking at the price sheet there was a $2,500 "Texas Protection Package" that included paint/leather protection (no exact details on what they are doing to provide protection), vin etching, and window tints.

I pointed out that these things individually don't even add up to $2,500 and my sales man said "this is pretty much a non negotiable for all cars from this dealership, if you had bought this ford as an inventory item we would be charging a much much higher mark up"

Given that I've already been truck-less and waiting for such a long time for the Maverick to arrive, I feel forced to eat this $2,500 markup.

I hope that this will inform others to find a different dealer that isn't going to be predatory on prices given the current state of the supply chain.

UPDATE:
Thank you everyone! I got a call earlier from the manager of the dealership. He apologized for the "confusion" that may have occurred and the "Texas Protection Package" has been removed.

Congrats on resolving your issue. Enjoy your maverick. I know you'll be driving that without a heavy heart as opposed to if it wasn't resolved.

My Maverick is due to be delivered in a couple days so this is good reading in case I run into a similar issue.

If you ordered your truck, you should have a document similar to this one. This is what I am paying for & the only things I am paying for.
Please read post# 51 by the OP.

I agree! But, what can I do? If I want the car, I would have to wait in the reservation line all over again.

They are definitely capitalizing on the fact that I have no options. Hopefully this will help inform others who may have reservations with them.
you wouldn't wait in the reservation line again. Why would you do that? So you could have potentially gotten kicked again? Where would have it all ended? Good it worked out and that the 'confusion' ended but I highly suspect it is the publicity that was generated about this that made them stand down.

If you didn't order all that when you built your tuck that's dealer add on and I would tell them no thank you. I didn't order it that way and I'd be calling Ford and complain of dealer trying to make buy Shit you don't want

There are dealers selling at MSRP. You could fly somewhere and pick one up for cheaper.
And some dealers are selling below MSRP Also, Just keep looking through the posts here on the Forum to find one that will work for you.
Happy Hunting

It’s important that we all call out these slimy dealer practices whenever we see them.

People need to know…
