Also,do not discuss the car deal in the salesman's office when he steps out to "talk to his boss"they have hidden microphones in the room to listen in
This seems very unlikely to me.

I think that almost all states (maybe all) have laws against that. See: State Audio and Visual Surveillance Laws (nar.realtor)

In Texas, for example, you can't intercept an oral communication unless one of the parties to the communication consents.

So if I tell the wife that if he doesn't bring a cup of black coffee back we are going to leave has zero chance of exposing anything?

Just thought I would share this with the Texas Maverick community.

My vehicle is scheduled to arrive later this month so I went to the dealership to prep paperwork. While I was looking at the price sheet there was a $2,500 "Texas Protection Package" that included paint/leather protection (no exact details on what they are doing to provide protection), vin etching, and window tints.

I pointed out that these things individually don't even add up to $2,500 and my sales man said "this is pretty much a non negotiable for all cars from this dealership, if you had bought this ford as an inventory item we would be charging a much much higher mark up"

Given that I've already been truck-less and waiting for such a long time for the Maverick to arrive, I feel forced to eat this $2,500 markup.

I hope that this will inform others to find a different dealer that isn't going to be predatory on prices given the current state of the supply chain.

UPDATE:
Thank you everyone! I got a call earlier from the manager of the dealership. He apologized for the "confusion" that may have occurred and the "Texas Protection Package" has been removed.

I appreciate everyone who leaned into to reach out to the dealership to help me make this right. I really did feel like I was stuck with nothing to negotiate on. My goal was never to harass, annoy, or disrupt the dealership. So, at this point I'd appreciate if you left them alone unless this happens again!
I went to their web site and started a chat. This is the chat - on the right side.

Just went through the whole thread. Wow what a ride. Sorry OP had to go through all that BS. Glad it turned out right but you know they will keep screwing people like that. Just hope I don't have to deal with this

Probably, unless there's some exception to the law that I don't know about.

Or unless they are willing to commit felony to listen to you and your wife talk. (And if they did, dozens of people at the dealership would know about it. It would just take one disgruntled employee to bring the whole thing down.)

Awesome work everyone. Let's bookmark this feed and keep posting when other shady dealers do this and help each other out. Nothing wrong with a little crowd sourcing to go up against the big bad dealers

OP here. Went down to the dealership and the car should be in soon! I will write a tell all about my thought on this once the deal closes. The dealership is well aware that I posted this thread so I don’t want it to impact delivery.

"Texas Protection Package?'" Makes me laugh the terms they will use to make it sound like they're "giving" you something special. :poop: (That you get the "privilege" of paying for.) Wasn't the "Texas Protection Package" what Santa Anna gave the Texans defending the Alamo?

The secret word is "They" the only one who has to know is THE finance guy who only has to have earpiece linked to microphone in his office. He keeps his percentage up and unknowing manager is happy that he is so good!

Hey!

Congrats on the turn around.

And thanks to everyone that contributed to this success story.

I hope you enjoy your Maverick and driving it without all those nasty strings attached!

Woot woot!

My dealer was great and the truck he has on order now there is no markup I would suggest reporting your dealer to BBB and have them investigated for price gouging

You can believe that if you choose. It seems very unlikely to me.

To quote Albus Dumbledore:

“What happened down in the dungeons between you and Professor Quirrell is a complete secret, so, naturally the whole school knows.”

Evidently by your post, you attributed success of the dealer relenting and thus, removing the Texas Protection Package add on, to this forum. There are few if any businesses that benefit from negative publicity from a group like this. It shows the positive effect possible through forums like this. Congratulations.

I did not say it was not unlikely but experience has shown me that there are bonus focused individuals that will do things. In all likely hood the person has the ability (maybe subconsciously) to know exactly when to close and can also detect when the spouse wants to tell you to cool out and just take the deal. Maybe even to the point of how long he needs to leave. There are some that in a quick draw duel that can wait many minutes and can feel when you are going to draw 1/2 second before you even know, a thing that's hard to beat.
