Wanna be super clear that this is not expressed to me as a dealer markup, market adjustment, or anything like that. This is a package of things that they are requiring me to buy for $2500.
Of course, but if they don't let you not buy these options, then it is essentially a markup. They should have disclosed this information to you prior to ordering.

If you are one who waited for 6 months for your Maverick & they insist you pay the $2500, try to get them to throw in some accessories you can actually use or some oil changes, anything you can get, it won't be $2500 worth but maybe you can get $500 worth to ease the pain a bit. A detailed sheet of this "Texas hold em $2500" would be nice to see.

Just thought I would share this with the Texas Maverick community.

My vehicle is scheduled to arrive later this month so I went to the dealership to prep paperwork. While I was looking at the price sheet there was a $2,500 "Texas Protection Package" that included paint/leather protection (no exact details on what they are doing to provide protection), vin etching, and window tints.

I pointed out that these things individually don't even add up to $2,500 and my sales man said "this is pretty much a non negotiable for all cars from this dealership, if you had bought this ford as an inventory item we would be charging a much much higher mark up"

Given that I've already been truck-less and waiting for such a long time for the Maverick to arrive, I feel forced to eat this $2,500 markup.

I hope that this will inform others to find a different dealer that isn't going to be predatory on prices given the current state of the supply chain.
Mine had the same package for 1000. They told me I can remove it if I don’t want it. I definitely dont want it😂

I mean, haggle, but at the end of the day, $2500 in my opinion isnt worth the time to haggle. I paid a markup off an inventory vehicle and would gladly pay only a $2500 markup just for the chance to have a first edition. My markup for a lot vehicle was $5k, in the end I haggled down from that and it was closer to like $3k, but I still paid it, for a XL model with a lot of nice options added.

Just my opinion of course, but you have to do what you want to do. I dont regret paying a markup because I literally got exactly the truck I wanted and was waiting for, without the year long wait, as I wouldnt have seen my order build and come in until late 2023.
I don't disagree with your viewpoint on this, but if I were secretagentstone, I would have a bad taste in my mouth every time I got in the truck due the $2500 extortion on the part of the dealer.

Thanks for sharing that... I just got on with one of their web browser agents and left this message: It is a shame that greed is becoming the new pandemic... I am on a Cl;ub site for Maverick Truck and reading about how your dealership is adding a $2,500 the Texas Protection package to an order for a Maverick. Get read for some really bad publicity! - I also sent them an email off their web site. I suggest more of you do the same... but leave behind bogus phone #s and email addresses...
And I also just messaged David Bonner - he is an actual sales rep at that dealership... gave him the facts - here is what I messaged: It is too late for you... you folks are getting a bad rap on a public blog site! + you had best talk to Alex Lind about the order that was agreed upon - which now has that bogus Texas Protection package Sales code F2056.. pretty soon there are going to be many more folks writing to your dealership! + It is a shame that greed brings down many successful companies... may you reverse course and change that policy and help the guy finish without that add on package! ... he is scrambling now to tell me that it is an optional package... LOL!

Here are the responses: "I’ve had many customers order without any “Texas protection package” you’re talking about" then... " If you’d like more accurate information you can always speak directly with the dealership and not third party sources. We are happy to discuss all options and accurate pricing" ... then ... "All packages are optional if you choose to add them. Like I said I have done many builds without a “protection package” do you have an order number?" .. and his final request: " I want to look up your build and profile. A name and number works too"...

My final words of advice do what you want now; call over and talk to David Bonner he is being very congenial... just now, before I closed out the chat box - Alex Lind was added... LOL!!!!

Wow now the innocent act: "Thank you for letting me know. I'm glad I am able to get involved right away. Thanks again."

My last response: You knew what you were doing, now you are acting innocent... Ford has been contacted - this after a national publication disclosed how Ford is coming down on dealerships for un-ethical sales actions... Good luck

I like that idea. I'll definitely try that.

Btw, they are claiming that my Military Appreciation discount is already a reduction towards the required package!
Then military discount comes from Ford and Ford will not like hearing that - get online with Ford. If you are still active duty get your base JAG officer involved - ripping off military is a big no-no. Push dont roll over.

For goodness sake, stop playing these dealer games. I understand you want a Maverick, but do you need a Maverick? No? Buy something different without a mark-up.

I’m obviously a fan of the truck, I have one on order. I also wouldn’t hesitate to pass on it if they wanted $2500 over sticker for it.

The only way to get dealers to stop this markup business is to quit paying it. I don’t understand the justifications people give for paying it. This is a mass production, low cost vehicle. Do not overpay, it is absurd.

This is a Maverick reserved in my name. I would love it if you could come and help me negotiate!!! Red McCombs told me they will not sell me the car if without the "Texas Protection package" So I'm open to ideas on how to push back.
Ken Garff dealers in CO do this to all their cars too. Such complete BS. You either bend over and pay the mobsters at the dealership or walk away. They have no reason to sell you at MSRP because if you say no and walk, someone will walk in right behind you and pay it. They are slimy and just want an extra buck. Nothing else to it. Very frustrating. Can call the local consumer affairs (usually the Part of the DA office) or file complaints with BBB, bad reviews on Yelp/Google etc, file dealership complaint w/ Ford. End of day it’s legal and they’re cons. If they do this before you even start signing papers- wait till they have you in the finance office.

Let me add that I think you, OP, and others in this situation should try to avoid the mindset of “oh someone else will pay it if I don’t” — fine, let them. Other people do all sorts of stupid stuff all the time. It doesn’t mean you need to.

I just alerted the dealership via online chat that members of this club were monitoring this situation. A message popped up that the internet manager was joining the conversation. A second later, the chat suddenly ended???

Maybe some of our fellow MTC folks can join in supporting our service member.

Good... then these actions are working in OUR collective favor! No lawyers, No state representative that only gives you lip service... The "Power of the People and their voices"!! Ok, I will settle down now.

I hope more of you take the time to write that dealership...

Thank you everyone! I got a call earlier from the manager of the dealership. He apologized for the "confusion" that may have occurred and the "Texas Protection Package" has been removed. I will be heading down today after work to sign off on the new pricing.

I appreciate everyone who leaned into to reach out to the dealership to help me make this right. I really did feel like I was stuck with nothing to negotiate on. My goal was never to harass, annoy, or disrupt the dealership. So, at this point I'd appreciate if you left them alone unless this happens again!

Excellent. Now if everything goes well, write them a review going over everything. Including how they made this right. By giving all of the details, it will allow others to make a much more educated decision when picking the dealer.
