Is there any reason you can’t refill this transmission from the level plug on the side of the Transmission. Instead of having to take apart the engine bay.

I've filled mine that way twice and haven't noticed any issues. But I do wonder why they say to fill it through the vent on top.

I've done both ways, more recently through the level plug. As long as you follow the procedure for setting the level at the right temp, I don't see an issue.

What is the right temperature? I'm assuming at operating temp, not cold. Is that correct?

Thank you. I was assuming a thread like that would be in the transmission section...... But it also makes sense to have it in the Maintenance section.

inside of transmission vent rubber tube, there is a vent ( looks like a plastic washer with small hole} might be easier to fill trans with vent washer removed, then afterwards put vent washer back into tube. Otherwise, it takes forever to fill transmission with new fluid...just a lil tip

I thought the same thing. I’m guessing that it probably just takes a lot longer to have to pump out 5 quarts from the bottles. ?

You don't need a pump for the transmission to get fluid in, just a funnel.

A great video on the 8F35 the correct way of doing it.

Good to know. I was concerned that maybe you wouldn’t be able to get the tube in far enough because it might hit some components.

My understanding is that is the concern. While the engine is running, the level of the fluid at the level check plug is lower than when it is not running because the pump is actively circulating the fluid, and I'm not sure you want to put a hose in there while it's running.

What other reason would the procedure instruct you to fill through the vent, just to make it more difficult?

I filled mine through the leveling plug and a hand pump. Drained out a little over 4 and put back in about 4 and a half.

Take the wheel off and turn the steering wheel so the hub and rotor assembly is out of the way. I didn’t want to take apart all that under the hood either, this seemed to work fine. Pump it until it starts dribbling out.

Ah, yes, that would be the question - good point!
