I had some 2x4s laying around and cut them to 54" .. they are a tad loose, not bad. They do rattle some though. I sprayed them flat black and I have 3 stacked on top of each other. I like the idea of the pipe insullation and am going to grab some to see if that helps.

ā€œGot my divider cut and put in today. Pleased with how it turned out. Used recycled plastic lumber in black from Menards, and added the pipe foam to make sure It doesnā€™t scratch my bed liner and I donā€™t hear it when Iā€™m driving. Ready to get groceries šŸ¤£.ā€
"With my spray in liner it [plastic lumber] was about 54 1/4 inches long in that slot. We started at 54 1/2 and made a slight trim."
"Itā€™s about 15 3/8 inches from the lumber board to the tailgate"
This truck has Ford's soft roll-up tonneau cover installed.

At the price I probably will black stain a wooden board and use the pipe foam on that. I will cut the foam tighter so it looks cleaner as well.

I love this idea, thanks! If I go purchase the pipe foam insulation to do this, what size should it be? Silly question, but this is my first truck and I don't own a saw so I'm hoping they cut the lumber at Lowe's for me to size and I cut the foam. TIA

For mine, I think I would use aluminum or just bare treated lumber. No point in painting it so it can get scratched by cargo. I will be doing the spray in liner to protect it from the salt air here. I have a bunch of aluminum channel I can use for it. My biggest is will someone make a nice fitted bed drawer that simply uses those slots to fix it in place to maximize space and not have to drill.

Thanks for the pics. I don't know if I would have thought to use the pipe insulation to keep the board from rattling. Excellent idea. Sometimes the simplest fixes are the most difficult to come up with.

54 1/4ā€ worked perfect. Thanks.

Thank you for the photo. I was going to ask if the Bed Extender would be compatible, but now I guess I won't bother. In fact, I think I just quit planning to buy the Bed Extender.

If you have the room to store it I would think about getting the bed extender anyways. I know its easy to put in and take out, and there are times when it could be quite useful, like helping someone move. Also it is not always easy to get one later say in like 5 years or so. Like trying to find a used Explorer SportTrac with the extender and the hard cover. Just a thought, I will get one and probably leave it out most of the time.

Great idea, but I think I'll get a can of Area51 blue paint and spray the plastic wood with it so they are easy to see against the black Berliner. Might prevent someone (me) from tripping over them šŸ˜…
Aaarrrggghhh!!! Just imagine if "The Three Stooges" were hired to make "The Maverick Flex Bed Commercial" šŸ¤Ŗ

Aaahhhhh! Of course. A full height and as wide as possible drawer to fill the bed with full extension drawer glides. Plywood floor in drawer and open in the back. Drawer could sit on tailgate with piece of wood of appropriate thickness attached to inside of top edge of tailgate to support the drawer when open. Fix a way to lock drawer open. Call this a bed extender with a floor!!! Will have to work on a reasonable max length but using tailgate for support and possibly using cross piece attached to floor or the sliding rails in the box. (Have to work on that) it might be possible to get at least 8ft without too much trouble. I may put this way down on my list WHEN I get my MAV!

I hadn't seen this, but that's exactly what I had planned on using whenever my truck gets delivered. The insulation foam is a great touch, hadn't thought of that.... My garage is getting full from the accessories I'm ordering for my future delivery...šŸ˜³
