I'm down on my luck today. I just got back to work today after a health scare involving 2 ER visits and taking paternity leave to recover. Picked up my 9 month old from first time at daycare and as we drove by an unlit wooded area a full size buck jumps out at full speed and collides into my maverick. We are both lucky that we aren't hurt. Everything with my baby is okay.

The bumper is damaged, driver side headlight and front grill cracked. Dings and dented hood. There are no leaks, radiator fan and all seem to be okay. Auto hold doesn't work. Might be other features that don't work but haven't fully checked. I got police report, took photos and video. It was dark so I plan to take more in the morning. I was able to drive home.

Best part is I just made my final payment on it, and purchased a ford premcare extended warranty about a month ago.

I know the extended warranty won't cover the damage from a deer. But what happens now? Can warranty repairs be denied now that it's in an accident? Has something similar happened to anyone here? Is it worth keeping the warranty? Any advice is welcomed.

Thanks.

Some Ford dealerships have body shops that only work with OEM parts, which might help. Your best bet is to call Ford customer/warranty support and see what they can find out for you.

I would hang on to the extended warranty. I bought mine to “protect” all the electronics & motors (wipers/windows/hvac/etc/etc) that are not covered by powertrain warranty.

I can’t imagine it would be reasonable to reject a claim for an electronic or motor issue that is totally unrelated to a deer hit.

I dented my rear bumper in an at fault boneheaded move. But if my touchscreen “bricks” I would fully expect my extended warranty to handle this covered claim.

Unfortunately, the extended warranty does not handle glass or headlights etc even if not damaged by an accident. If a manufacturing defect can be proven, however, you may be able to argue over it;)

There IS a headlight rider. Worth it, as the replacements are over a grand (they have to replace the entire assembly).

Terrible scare.
Glad you and baby are ok.

Warranty covers manufacturer.
Insurance covers occupants and damage.

Its a story that reminds us to cover our azz!

Sorry to hear about what you have been through. I keep reading posts about deer and all the havoc they are causing to Mavericks. Good to hear you and baby are fine. I hope the extended warranty works out in your favor. Keep us posted on how things work out.

If it's repaired, I don't think they can deny warranty, unless they can prove that the damage from the accident cause the issue. If the fender cut the wiring bundle that wouldn't be covered. If the headlight goes Tango Uniform and if you included the lights in your extended warranty. I don't think they can deny the warranty.

Your insurance company will decide if its totalled or not. If its drivable you might consider taking payment from the insurance company, minus the junkyard fee, and keeping the maverick. Our caravan was totalled 5 years ago. We took the payment towards the caravan and put it towards our maverick, and have been driving the caravan ever since. Saves miles on the Maverick.

This is a non-collision claim and should be covered under the comprehensive portion of your policy. Check with your insurer but typically the deductibles are much less compared to collision. This of course is assuming you have a full coverage policy. I keep a zero deductible on my comp policy because it's affordable and provides peace of mind for things like windshield replacement, vandalism and of course deer encounters.

Unfortunately, everyone is correct with This being an insurance claim and not a warranty or extended warranty claim. Another thing to keep in mind when it comes to any vehicle warranty, "Typically" they do not cover wearable items. Things like brake pads, engine belts, transmission belts, tires or even a standard car battery. Hybrid system is covered however. Mainly because it is on the factory window sticker. So if you want a battery or tires that come with a warranty, best to buy those from either the manufacture or an auto parts store that offers a warranty in writing.

Auto insurance is resposible for all repairs. Warrenty won't cover as the accident was the cause, not faulty Ford parts.

The original post indicates " I know the extended warranty won't cover the damage from a deer. But what happens now? Can warranty repairs be denied now that it's in an accident?

It appears the OP is aware that the extended warranty will not cover damage from the deer. Thus is aware Insurance is the path to go for the repairs related to the accident. I don't believe insurance is the issue here. From what I read he wants to know if other future issues related to his truck that are unrelated to the deer accident will be covered by the warranty now that he has had the deer accident. At least that is my understanding.
