I remember when Dad said that back in the 60s and some of the 70s Chrysler products were somewhat ugly.
.

I have trouble applying "ugly" to any Chrysler product in the years that AMC was still producing . . . also a free pass for everyone else during the Pontiac Aztec. The first time I saw one, my immediate reaction was to be shocked that AMC was back in production!

The card slit was probably one of dumbest ideas IMO. I mean say you put your store discount card or hotel key card in there and forget it overnight. Then some lowlife going around looking through the window see it and thinks it’s a credit/debit card. He then breaks your window to get in. Now you’re out thousands in repairs all because of a card slit. Wallets work just fine if you ask me.

I think Ford ripped me off, I don’t have the slit in my console like so many others do!

Meeka,
Perhaps you have not yet found the credit card holder slit.
Here it is in my truck, my friend.

Thanks for the invite, but I was just joking, put a little humour here. Actually I’m glad I don’t have the ‘useless slit’.
Hey! I use that slit at Costco gas (rarely there…I have a hybrid)! I will trade it for ACC tho!

You only get that with a non fx4 and probably some other configurations when there are no need for the bottom buttons. It's just a fill in for when those buttons are not needed.
I like it when on a long trip from Texas to Michigan to hold my credit card so I don't have to carry a wallet. Other than that. Not much use.

Oh my God...are you guys serious...LOL What the HE** else is it for???? It is for a dam CREDIT/DEBIT card to hold in place so it doesn't fall between the seat at drive-throughs and such. It's been mentioned at LEAST 100 times on here. My Golden Doodle knew what it was the first time he rode in the Mav......:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

I use the slit for my credit card when I queue for gas at Costco. I put the credit card back in the slit after filling so I don't waste time fumbling with my wallet while others are waitng. Although there is also a clip on the sun visor that serves the same purpose.

My dad always referred to AMC cars by their more commonly known name that was used prior to the 70's -Rambler. So the Gremlin, Matador, pacer, etc were all called Rambler until the days of the collaboration with Renault. Most True ramblers weren't that ugly, just plain. But the ones that were prominently called by their official AMC name were definitely challenged in the looks department 😅. I think the Hornet/Concord was the only one that wasn't ugly. It wasn't good looking either. Just plain

Rambler was Nash. Nash merged with Hudson to create AMC (I want to say that there was another smaller company or two. I think AMC shipped most or all of the existing models for both for a while.

AMC eventually picked up jeep, and then listed as a vassal of Chrysler for a couple of years before being absorbed.

It's all subjective of course, but I wouldn't call a Javelin ugly or plain--especially the first generation.

Ford finally determined that slit was the cause of "deep sleep" in hybrids, it allows the electricity to leak out while parked. The recall is to put a FORD official, part number, Band-Aid over it, carefully coving the entire opening, and replace daily.
