And I guess they had no mechanic at this rural station, no tow truck, and was the only building within a mile. No other locals willing to call a tow truck who are pumping gas either. Yep, makes perfect sense now. He was in the Twilight Zone.
He was in California 😉

Half of Fords on the road require 5W20, why would a Ford dealer not have it?
didn't know that, thanks guys. my 4 Fords have all been ecoboost and none use 5w20.

My 99 E150 uses 5W20, My 2013 F150 used 5W20, 2018 Mustang 5W20 from the factory (Now Supercharged running 5W50 FS), and work trucks 2003 F450, 2009 F550, 2011 F550 & 2013 F650 V10's all use 5W20. I don't believe I've ever had a Ford require 5W30 except my wife's 2013 Escape Ecoboost. Her 09 Fusion used 5W20 too. That's 8 out of 9 we owned in the last 20 years.

On edit: I just looked up the Maverick Hybrid and it shows 5.7 quarts of 0W20 FS. First I've seen requiring 0W20.

His original explanation noted that he didn't think a tow truck could get positioned to load his Maverick at the gas station, which is not where the problem began, so he went to the parking lot. None of us know what he was seeing, so why all the Monday morning quarterbacks?
Re-read the original post. The OP doesn't know why this happened and seems to wonder if the issue can affect other ecoboost Mavericks.

If we were to all accept and believe that, it could create hype and fear like Audi 5000 unintended acceleration and Ford Explorer underinflated Firestone tires. Both of which were debunked and ultimately resulted in factory floor mats being pinned down and unable to reach the gas pedal, and TPMS, respectively.

But IMHO there is probably no such issue here. It took some unusual circumstances to produce the original failure. It then took some unusual behaviors by the OP to enable the situation that ultimately resulted. It should've been parked and towed at the first sign of trouble, that's an easy call on Monday morning or any other day of the week.

In my 23 years of Towing, I never had a car on the ground surface I couldn't get to. I pushed out what I had to in that rare occurance.

The Ford dealership I worked at had both 5w-20 and 5w-30 synthetic blend in bulk tanks in the shop. If full synthetic was requested the tech's would come to the back counter to get it.

And I'm sure 15W40 for the diesels in drums too.

The idea that the OP couldn't get towed out of the gas station is BS.

What happens if someones car couldn't start and needed a tow from there. Would the owner have to abandon it there forever because no one could tow it?

100% BS. Unless it was a Hot wheels 1/64th scale gas station, that is not a possible issue. Tow trucks gas up in gas stations too.

Yes , I agree but being at a crowed gas station moving the Maverick to a empty parking lot to get towed prevented a major catastrophe
You mean "CAUSED A MAJOR CATASTROPHE". I'm sorry, but even starting it after noticing oil sprayed all over the engine compartment was a bad idea. I would've pushed it to the side, and called a tow or waited for help. You choose to roll the dice. That dice roll didn't workout. We've all made mistakes, and this one luckily was only your truck hurt. Live and learn. But your story here helped educate thousands more here on what not to do with oil dripping off the hood.

If only there were some way to just, like, push a vehicle somewhere else. What if you could have someone sit in the driver's seat to steer while others helped push from behind? Inconceivable!

Apparently, no expert was there otherwise this catastrophe might've been avoided.

Nobody needs to be at the scene. If a woman had done this, she would be massacred for it and 98% of the men would think "typical woman behavior" As an owner of a vehicle, or any product you have consumer responsibility. Even though cars have warnings and service reminders and low tire pressure lights etc, it is ultimately up to the owner to react accordingly. What if the OP instead had said my truck started suddenly making this horrible knocking noise, but it wasn't convenient to stop and so I kept going. Then, my engine blew up, but I can't understand why. People would massacre him for that too. There were obvious signs of significant failure with his truck, and he ignored them. It is a good thing is ultimately burned down, because he could easily be denied a warranty claim to fix this truck under the circumstances. And as usual there is so much other BS in this thread, like oil weight discussions. He could have put syrup in the engine and it wouldn't cause it to suddenly evacuate itself from the truck. Sadly though, because of the fire and total loss status the root cause will likely never be known.

With the current Hybrid Engine Fire recall its strange it happened with an ecoboost and AFAIK zero Hybrids.

Common sense would tell you do not drive a vehicle with the OPs issue but Ford does warn against it for those lacking common sense.
