I am sorry for the loss of your Maverick and grateful for your family not suffering any injuries. I certainly understand what you did and won’t criticize your actions because I don’t know what I would have done in the same situation. I do know I will more inclined to pay attention to warning lights from now on.

Yep, I wondered at the time why the Ecoboost was not included and assumed because it had no shutters to restrict air flow. This will most likely cause a recall for Ecoboost.
This most likely will not cause a recall for the Ecoboost. This engine, not trans, has been around a long time.

It was a big deal...probably the first issue with Mavericks. Search this site and you will find it.
....for the HYBRID. I dont have a hybrid. No reason for me to srarch...i dont have any skin in the hybrid arena.

No offense, but adding oil and continuing to drive as it was leaking is a bit like me trying to stop a raging campfire by throwing gasoline on it.

Until the reason for the oil leak is determined- if it can be- there is no reason for anyone to jump to any conclusions. Parts do fail or someone may have done some kind of service to the motor that was not right. I had a fuel line burst on our 1968 Galaxie and had to put the fire out with a watering can but Ford did not do a recall. Glad you and your family are okay.

But the Ford Maverick hasn’t. The platform have matured but somewhere in the Maverick design is different. Does anyone recalled the Ford Pinto fire incident.

Another VB Gang member down. Pour one out fellas
Not only is it a one year only color (Velocity Blue) it’s also an XL with a sunroof

To the OP let this be a learning moment

I also suggest when mentioning this to your insurance that you do no talk about adding more oil to a leaking smoking engine and continuing to drive
I’m no insurance expert but if I was covering you I’d have some reservations about paying you out
(Like a friend of mine that allegedly purposefully drove his Corvette into high water, he got paid out but it was very suspicious)

The Pinto was completely different. It was due to gas tank location/placement...not not engine design. Not a good comparison. To my point, you stated "leaking/spraying oil". Lets not go off on wild tangents. This is an isolated event. Will wait to see/hear the cause.

Me either. Im betting they dont either
Was that supposed to mean one more Velocity Blue down from the VB gang/group🤔 I’m thinking there was another bad incident with a VB months ago. Thanks to @volksnuts I did not realize that was a one year color! Definitely a unicorn!

Glad everyone is safe and unharmed. Yes, as pointed out the oil on the hood should have alarmed you something wasn't right, but I also do understand.

Regardless, make certain you notify the proper authorities to this event. This may be crucial in catching a potential problem in the making and your notification could potentially save lives if it is.
